AMEX BCE CLI (+ question)

All,

Was thinking today that it was easily over the 6 months since I last requested an increase on my AMEX card and thought I'd give it a whirl. My previous limit was $9,000 and know that a 3x CLI of $9k may trigger a tax document request, so I decided to do less and requested an increase to $24,500. I used to heavily use this card (prior to downgrading from BCP to BCE since I used it on groceries), but it doesn't get much use anymore because of my SM WMC. I got the dreaded "7-10 business day" message, but when I navigated back to my main account screen I see that my limit is $24,500. Any idea why it just didn't give me the approval message if it increased my limit right away anyways (rather than the 7-10 day message)?

Congratulations!

Speculating: The initial Instapproval wasn't able to do so, so then they sandbag a 7-10 message just to give them time, then a secondary auto review (or some person assigned to "check this queue for these requests") was able to calculate the approval. If that secondary approval wasn't able to approve, then it may have gone to some other level of approval prior to final determination / denial.
