AmEx Pending Status

Hi eveyrone,

Last week I was approved for the AmEx Costco Card, with a $2000 limit. My scores have recently been on an upswing and Experian is now 693, although my AAoA is probably down below 2 years because I've added a couple of new accounts.

On the same day I got the Costco approval, I decided to apply for the Plenti card (although I wish now I'd done BCE...but anyway)...I got the pending message to call in. They wanted to verify that it was really me applying for two cards back to back. It's now been 4 days, and still pending. When I originally called in, the rep I talked to said, 'You will be approved, it's just in pending status for 3-5 days because of the double application." This morning I got a different response. The rep said the application is on a system hold for five days due to the back-to-back appication and no one can even access it until the 5 days is up - tomorrow.

I've worked in call centers before so I'm quite well aware that reps can say pretty much whatever they want, so I'm not putting faith in what either of these reps said. But just wanted to share and see if anyone has recent information on this kind of "pending" and the likelihood of an approval.

The second rep is correct. It's standard Amex policy when two revolvers are apped at the same time.

Hi All,

Today is the 5th day that my Am Ex Plenti card has been in pending status. I called this morning and the rep was able to approve me over the phone...with an $8000 CL. Yowza! On the Costco card that was approved last week, they gave me a $2000 limit. I was going to try the instant 3x CLI when it gets here, but at the moment that feels a bit like tempting fate. Maybe some of you have advice for me on that?

Now I REALLY wish I had applied for the BCE instead of the Plenti, but oh well - I'm happy. Now just awaiting the recon on my PenFed Promise card, and then into the garden I go.

For others trying this double-application process with AmEx, my highest score is TU 696 with the other two hovering about 20 points below. No lates, one medical collection that is more than 5 years old, AAoA at just over 1 year due to several new accounts. I have a spate of inquiries but over half of them relate to mortgage and shopping for a car loan.

Yeah that's normal it takes about 5 business days for them to process the second one. Happen to me when I app'd for BCE -> Everyday

Did you by any chance try the 3X CLI with either of your two cards, without waiting for the 61 days to elapse?Would like to hear your experience if so.

I tried both when I activated them, got denied saying account is too new. Now I have to wait 90 days lol

You may not have gotten the same fat starting line with the BCE. Indications are that the Plenti has lower underwriting standards.

In the same boat, but something worth noting: you got a killer initial CL, and if you hold onto that card for 12 months, you can transfer some of the credit line to another account. I would highly recommend holding it, getting your 3x CLI down the line and then getting the card you want and reaping the benefits of patience.

Amex did exactly what others stated here. I applied for Delta PLAT last Monday, instant approval. Than appd for the BCP right after and got the "we need to talk to you blah, blah, blah". So I called, verified a few things, and was told "we cannot process 2 apps on the same day Yada, Yada, Yada" and my BCP sat "in process" for 7 full days. Finally this Monday I checked the status webpage and saw "approved". I haven't received any email's so I have no idea about CL's. I even checked both the Amex app and website to see if this third AMEX card was added to my other two, but nothing. Hopefully tomorrow I'll see or get something. I also ended up with a HP from EX for each card, 1HP last Monday and another HP this Monday. That's 3 HP's on EX for Amex in the last two weeks. 😵😱😵😱
