Discover finally came thru

After exactly a year of having my Duscover it Student card and countless requests for a CLI, they finally give me an auto CLI of $250... What is this, Discover??? I know a SP CLI is still a CLI nonetheless, but why so low of an increase? Doesn't make sense to me at all. My scores jumped about 100 points since they approved me for the card. Well not even jumped 100 points, I got my first credit card 08/14 and got the Discover card 09/15 with no credit at all. And now I'm at 713, 730, and 720 and they give me such a low increase.

Honestly, I don't really mind because at the end of the day, a CLI is a CLI but I'm curious as to why it's so low when I have other cards that are well over $1000. But anyways, I got a Discover CLI from $500 to $750 haha

I know a SP CLI is still a CLI nonetheless, but why so low of an increase - Might want to call and ask Discover. All we can do here is speculate. Could be any number of reasons.

I have other cards that are well over $1000 - Im counting 13 cards in your sig, available credit total $24,100 which means your average CL is about $1850. So you might have a couple cards above $1000 but at first glance without knowing individual limits it doesnt look like the majority are *well over* that amount.

At any rate congrats! Hopefully it will grow more over time.

Congrats! After having a new Discover Card for six months, they increased my credit limit by $250 too. Glad to get the auto-cli. Since then, over three and a half years I have had to either call or use their online tools to increase my credit limit. Sure don't have any answers. You may be able to call in or use the online to obtain additional line increases. Oh, I have never had an HP ... an there were five additonal credit limit increases worth a total of $9,250.

I've actually had the same problem. I only had one automatic CLI after having the card for 6 months. I went from a $500 CL to a $750 CL. I assume I'll get another automatic CLI when I hit my one year anniversary with that card but I've been asking for a CLI all the different ways I can, and they all want to do a HP and I just don't want to do that right now. Congratulations though.

I think the one thing that contributes to your low limit is also the time. When I tried to request CLI (under a year time) they were giving me 500-1500 CLI but when a year past they handed mw out an 6K CLI and put me currently at 17.5K. With some lenders it takes time. Looking at your profile, I don't see any cards over a year. Time is your best friend here.

Sometimes you have to just appreciate what you got and let it grow. You've gotten a lot of new cards in short order. Build a track record. Every CLI is not going to be some massive number that's a new record. Often it is a small increase followed later by a much later one.

So many people decry CLI when they have no intention of ever using even a fraction of the CL let alone the CLI or use it as a buffer for util purposes.

Enjoy what you have gotten in short order.
