First new approvals in Three Years!!!!

So I was a little bored Sunday and pretty bummed because I finally have high FICO scores and can't app for anything until I close on the house in a few weeks. After trolling here for a few hours, I decided to check out the pre-qualify sites for a few of the cards for both me and DH. Since only my name is on the mortgage, I realized I could apply for DH without messing anything up. So, he showed as pre-qualified for the Cap zone Venture and QS. I didn't expect too much, as he only had two cards with them that I had just requested CLI for the previous week. One was at $300 and they raised to $800 and the other QS1 was at $1,500 and they raised to $2,500. Now, I only knew to do the CLI request because of my reading on this site, so thank you MyFico! So, I went ahead and apped for the QS- instant approval $5,000 SL! Woo-Hoo!!! Thanks to what I had read, I went ahead and did the app for Venture. Before reading these forums, I would never have done both! But, instant approval $15,000 starting limit!!! I almost fainted!!! So, I got brave and decided to app for Barclays Apple visa, fully expecting to be denied. Wow- approved for $2,000. He does have an aaviator with them, now he has two cards with Barclays!!! So then, I got really brave and decided to app for the Citi Aadvantage platinum select. We need more miles from the sign up for some flights next year. Pending further review...... Should hear in a week. OK, time to stop!!!! I did some looking and realized we still have our old address on his account with them and I used our temporary address. Figured that could be the problem, so I updated our account with the new address. Kept checking, same message. So, yesterday, decided to try for a CLI on his Citi DP. Denied. Ok, I know the Aadvantage is going to be a denial too. Like and behold, I went ahead and checked one more time, and the AAdvantage was approved!!! $10,000 SL!!!! His previous total CL was around 10K. I just added $32K to his total limits!!!! Finally figured out from reading this site that our scores were so low because of our utilization. I never asked for CLI and just took the few auto CLI they did give me. Because we used our cards a lot and paid after statement cut, our overall UTI was around 60%!!!! So, I pad everything off before statement cut last month and his score rose about 100 points! (I also disputed two collections that were removed). Woo-hoo!!!! It's amazing was education can do!!! I never knew what I was doing wrong!!! Now, I cannot wait until I can app after closing!!! I will be back asking for advice on what to app for!! Thanks again!

Thanks!!! I cannot believe it's taken me this many years to finally get our credit on track. He still has one c/ o I need to take care of, so I was really surprised!

I feel the same way. I had for years just bounced along assuming that my credit wasn't good enough and not knowing exactly what the problems were or how to fix them.

i had a measly 2 cards with low CL's and because of my timing my util was always bad and I didn't know.

i started reading on here and wow! I didn't know what I didn't know.

went from $2k CL to $50k CL in 2 months thanks to understanding timing better and aping for the right cards that fit my scores.

it helped that I had cash to fix my util quickly and decent income.

since I had just bought my car I had no big buys to wait for so started hitting buttons

cant believe what big improve,mets I've made in such a short time due to all the knowledge and experience here.

Thank all all of you! Please keep posting, even if it seems insignificant some one can benefit from every experience good or bad.

Excellent!! Stories like these give people hope. I've learned so much here, and I want to talk to my parents about the things I've learned but ... is that overstepping? LOL. Congrats, anyway!

I was thinking the same thing....my parents are pretty savvy but my in-laws could really benefit from some of this knowledge.....just don't want to insult anyone and people are very sensitive about their income and credit profiles.
