Feel free to call me a hypocrite - I'm so ashamed !

As an often admitted strong critic of AmEx, today I became a hypocrite, but not a convert.

My Fidelity brokerage account kept "suggesting" I sign up for their AmEx or Visa, figured these were through Bank of America (sub-company) and I'm not a big fan of BoA, at least not their regular cards and low limits (for me at least), so I figured why not ? I'll get declined, but they'll stop bugging me - WRONG.

Approved - Fidelity Investment Rewards American Express, 12 months at Zero percent APR and then $13.99% - should have gone for the Visa, at least I could have kept my pride intact. It's a low limit card but I don't care since I don't even like AmEx.

Congrats on a nice approval of a card although I despise BofA personally.. Least the card isn't issued by Centurion Bank just on their network

Yes, it is not a "real"AMEX issued by AMEX. It would be like hating Visa or Mastercard. In this case AMEX is just the billing processor.

Congrats on getting a card from them! I used to be a boa fan, but not never anymore. so i can udnerstand your hesitation with fidelity. but that card definitely comes highly regarded by many.

what is your limit???

Just $2k SL my lowest card limit if you ignore AEO (which I do) - I really did not expect to get the card, not because of my credit, but because I canceled my BoA card while it was still in the 0% period (at 10 months), but after they gave me the spending bonus and because I really dislike AmEx and I don't think they like me much either. Long story, but I used to be a major retailer and retail customer of Amex - today I keep one low limit very low APR (7.24%) card from them which I rarely use but it's dated 1978 so I keep it open.

No need to feel ashamed. It's not actually issued by Centurian and to further ease your pain, it's technically not issued by BofA either. Honestly, for whatever reason, FIA Card services has been much more generous with me than BofA has. I know BofA owns FIA, but I guess the underwriting guidelines are just different or whatever. My Fidelity card is my highest limit and I get BT offers on it all the time. I'm a big fan!

Seriously, AMEX has nothing to do with this card other than processing transactions just like Visa or MasterCard. The card is issued by FIA Card Services.

I'll wait and see what happens as far as CLI's, et al - if it gets up there with my other regular spending limits ($10k to $20k) I'm sure I'll use it more - which is kind of funny because I don't even have it yet, but I do have a fairly well funding trading account - maybe that'll help.

This post was not really that serious, I just found it amusing that I got approved for a card I didn't expect to and from companies (AmEx and BoA) I didn't want to do business with, and yes I knew who issued the card and it was co-branded (but I did think AmEx had some say on even their cobranded cards). I do feel a little bit like a hypocrite after trash talking AmEx over the years - should have got the Visa

Well you should stick it to them. all of their Twitter sync rewards work with real and not real Amex accounts
