Citi can be a bit stingy with limits on a few cards from what I've read here. Premier and Prestige seem to have decent starting limits but DC and their balance transfer cards can sometimes be low compared to other current limits. Like 2011XTERROR said some of us have success taking a second HP. My DP went from $6k - $15k doing this. I felt it was worth it. After six months he may qualify for a SP increase.
Congrats to your brother

My brother applied for three cards today:

Citi Doublecash (pre-qual mailer): $3,000

Wells Fargo (pre-qual mailer): $10,000

Delta Gold SkyMiles Amex: $8,000

I was just amused by the small starting limit from Citi and wanted to share.

I just got approved for the citi dc world elite mastercard but the sl was only 1700. EQ is my lowest score so i would expect that, but they do grow.

Citi is tough and not the nicest on giving out big credit limits.

I remember when I had my Citi Shell MasterCard at 19, the limit was largest approval amount of $11,000.00 but this was in 2004 lol.

Yes, they are! I was given a 4k starting limit when I had 780 on Experian which they pulled. I burned Citi in my Chapter 13 so thought that was the reason, but it seems most of us have lower starting limits although I am sure there are exceptions.

Everyone in this thread has the doublecash, which is well known for giving out low starting limits. CIti's higher-end cards regularly see $5k and up starting limits. Look in the approvals section for more evidence to support my statements.

Citi is tight with SLs but with regular usage, time, and on time payments they can bump you generously with HP or SP if you're lucky enough. Some folks say they will auto CLI you as well.

I went from $7700 to $25000 to $35000 on my AA Plat over two HPs six months apart.
