Worried, but approved for Ritz Carlton Visa

So I pulled the trigger and applied for the Ritz Carlton Visa. Considering I currently have 2 chase credit cards now in good standing and have good credit, I thought I would get approved no problem. Then I got the 10 day message - hmmm... I called a credit analyst, and she says "looks like you had a card with Washington Mutual in 2001, and it was charged off, can you tell me about that?" - Oh crap (BTW, this is no longer reflected on my CR). Told her I was 18 and didn't understand the importance of credit, and made some mistakes, but now I get it and have worked to maintain good credit history. She put me on a hold for another 5 minutes, and I was approved for 10K. Chase seems to be a little stingy with credit limits considering the limits on some of my other cards, but I'll take it!

Interesting. I am curious if it showed up on ChexSystems. Although that is generally used for checking and savings. Was the CO on a secured card?

I think we all have been put on the spot in one way or another with lenders asking "old" questions but you done the right thing and they accepted and approved!!!

The charge off was on an unsecured card. I'm assuming it was some internal system.

Nothing to do with ChexSystems. Their records go back much further than 2001. Last year they originally denied me for the CSP from the same old bank, Washington Mutual, from 1993. They have a very long memory.

Their computers have long memories even if you paid it off with the old lender and Chase bought out the portfolio from WAMU or Providian or another lender they bought where it shows up in their system.. I bit unfair, but it is what it is. For something I did in 2000 I will never get an instant approval from Chase although I paid it and it was never owned by Chase. So all my applications go into manual UW and I just wait them out vs. calling and being lectured about something 16 years ago

I completely forgot that WaMU was sold to Chase

So did I This was an account my ex opened in our names without me knowing. Chase has seemingly gotten over it in my case but I wouldn't be surprised it if rears its ugly head the next time I apply for one of their cards.
