Citi Prestige Application

Looking to get the Citi prestige card. I have upcoming travel in the next few months and it would be the perfect card for it. I know there are other travel rewards cards that may be easier to get, but this is the card I am hoping for. I don't want to waste a hard inquiry for a denial though. Currently, I have 3 cards, bank americard cash CL 25k, amex blue cash preffered, cl 10k, and chase slate cl 5k. Current usage around 10%. Credit reports probably show slightly higher in the 15% range, as the limits were increased recently. EXP 715 EQ 691 TU 709. No missed payments on CC or car payment. EQ showing 30 day late on a student loan, that I believe is an error, and will fix before I bother applying. Exp and TU showing a collection account 5.1 years old, it was due to insurance not paying the claim and I paid it off as soon as I found out. Adding those details, because perhaps explainng this over the phone, would help if they were on the fence about approving me? Inq 3, 4, and 4, and 2 accounts opened in the past year both 7 months ago. Income 140k. I have over 200k in student loan debt and about 5k left on my car. Oldest account is 8.5 years, average age 4.9 years. What are my chances? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the board. Have you checked the Citi pre-qualifying site? If so, what is showing up for you?. Based on some profiles here, I'd say you stand a good chance of getting it despite the baddies.

Hi, and thank you. Yes I checked the website, but nothing showed up. Is that a bad sign? I tried putting in my old address in case it hadn't updated yet but that didn't help either.

Although, you are not seeing a pre-equal that is not a big deal. Most people who apply aren't pre-equaled and still get approved. Now, as long as you get the late payment removed before you apply, I'd say you stand a chance.

And remember, you are afforded reconsideration if denied. So if this is the card you absolutely yearn for then I'd get to work if I were you on removing the late payment, come up with a plan B [Nice rebuttal] should you be denied after applying.

Finally got the nerve, and got sick enough of waiting today, and decided to apply. Instant approval 17,500 CL. Couldnt be happier, I really wanted this card and I'm exstatic that it worked out. This means two things, first the issue of them immediately denying people constantly appears to have been fixed. I know that was an issue a few months back but wasn't for me. Also, for anyone else looking at the card, just know you can get approved even with some negative marks. Looking at my tax returns from last year, income was about 154,000. So that probably helped, because I've heard they like a decent income. Also, my payment history is mostly clean. Thanks everyone for the advice, and support. Good luck to anyone else looking to give it a go.

As for the mistaken denials, it still happens but not as often as it was occurring in the past

Congrats. I love this card so much that I met the spend bonus, received both the airline and 4th night stay free credits within 2 statement cycles.

Congrats! I was just recently approved as well. FWIW, when I received the card, I went online and asked for a CLI. It cost me another EQ pull, but I received 7.1k increase. On the advice of others, I asked for 45k - so they will counter. Anyway, nice starting limit.

Thanks everyone! I applied on April 1st, it is now April 9th still now card. I called and they said it was sent via regular mail on the 6th, so hopefully soon. It's not a good first impression considering most premium cards seem to be sent overnight. I would think for $450 per year, they could overnight the card. Also, it's annoying since the 90 day spending window starts when approved so I'm missing out on a week and a half already. Perhaps I just need to learn patience, but so far I'm rather frustrated.

The approval letter says call of you don't receive it by April 10th. So if it's not here today, I'll call later and ask. Since tomorrow is Sunday, I know it won't be delivered then. I'm anxious to get it because I have one flight I want to book right away, and at least one more flight and two hotel stays coming up in the next 2 months. Will keep you updated.
