American Express, You're all right with me~Approved!

Finally!

Finally! (exhaling) I am in with American Express! I fell on super hard times after the death of my mom. Then I got sick. Lost job, apt and truck all in a span on three months.

I couldn't handle the bills, so to not completely give up, I asked for help. Help came and I was thankful for it, but there is NOTHING like having your own and managing it well.

I filed for BK to get my truck back, got in school, became a nurse and the rest is history. I have worked diligently to pay off everything. This year, after applying for an apartment and getting denied bc of the BK, I asked if I could pay it off early. To my surprise I could! So I did and got the apartment! I have been able to pay off a couple of cards withing a matter of 4 months and I am doing okay. I am blessed. I also got back in school to get another degree.

I hear so much good news and not so good news on this site. I am planning on buying a new car after I am done with school in December. I do not and have never owned a home (or a new car for that matter), but I have worked my fingers to the bone trying to learn about adult life. I am well into adulthood, but when you do not learn the do's and don'ts as a child and young adult, bad decisions become cyclical.

Sorry, I'm off topic (venting) but I got in with Penfed due to the great things I heard about them. I always check the Amex site for preapproval, but there is never one available. So when I got a checking and svgs acct with PenFed a couple of days ago, I tried, against my better judgement for a Amex Travel CC. I was denied. I asked for reconsideration and was again denied. I called in to see what they could do about it, and was told I could take out some sort of small loan that worked like a payday loan.

Hells NO!

I am not moving backward. Been there. Done that! I was told to wait another 6 months with that sort of deal and they would pull my credit again. Now, Cap One is not the entire best with CC, but I have several cards for abt 50g with them, so I have credit established. I know the criteria is picky with PF, but okay. Again, it was a longshot.

I will not be taking out that loan, but I will deposit money on a regular basis to work towards a home in the future. Perhaps a mortgage or car loan would be in my future with them.

I cold apped this morning with Amex. You know those feelings you get with that little wheel spinning and you're looking away, because you are not really prepared for another denial? Well, that wheel spinned and then asked me if I wanted additional cards, and then it said HEY GIRL! WE SEE YOU! HERE YA GO!

I am blessed and happy to have attained 2 cards today with American Express! I am more responsible now than ever because financial freedom feels so damn good!

The Blue Cash Preferred and Premier Rewards Gold are the cards I was approved for and I am happy to establish a relationship with Amex!

I am sorry to hear about your mom, and the bad financial times you had. But, you were able to make a huge comeback. Most people wouldn't be able to get those cards out of the gate.

I've been there when I couldn't even afford to buy a pack of gum. Let alone have a credit card. No one would approve me for anything. So when my approvals started rolling in for different cards about 5 months ago, I was in disbelief. I expect the denials. So seeing the words "Congratulations, you are approved" is a great feeling. And, yes....you are blessed!!

The Gold Premier is NPSL and The Blue Cash is 1000. Not sure if I should recon that amount though. However, I am thankful. Scores are 694 TU, EQ 654 and EX 660. However, those scores don't show the 6000 paid towards cc for the month. My scores haven't updated on my fico though since the payoff. I travel a lot with work and pay off credit cards weekly. Two card our of 28 with balances, 17% util. Although, that has also decreased too!
