I gave in to PenFed. PenFed Says Yes.

For the last few months, PenFed has started marketing products to me, with more regularity and frequency. When I joined, my scores were below 700 with a negative account showing on the Equifax report. So, while I desperately wanted to refinance a car loan with them, PenFed turned me down. I went elsewhere and rebuilt my credit while time clicked away at the negative entry on the report.

So, I went back and clicked Apply a couple of days ago:

But I had been torn between two cards, so i went back and checked to see what the answer would be for the Amex card that earns 5% on flights:

There has been no request for any proof of income, but if they ask for it later it wouldn't be a problem either. I chatted with a CSR about a preapproval that popped up for refinancing, but the vehicle I'd refinance is already at 1.99%, and due to the model year PenFed's rate would also be 1.99%, so it didn't make a lot of sense to refinance right now. I guess my rebuild is basically complete.

I don't know the NexGen score yet.... waiting for the card to arrive and maybe it will be included in the paperwork. My FICO score from DCU spiked up to 766 the same day I applied. (six years ago, 652)

Holy macaroni !! Almost makin me wanna bcome a member. .. smart strategy tho, if you have almost a 40k limit with them, no need to use several cards, tryin to earn all ur business .... good job!! Wunder if I can be a member here in Tx ... highest limit my CU dishes out is 25k on their cards ... one of these is even an Amex too ...sweetness!! Congrats!
