Discover It & Citi Double Cash

Woo Hoo. Got approved for a Discover card on Monday, and the Citi Double Cash just now. Capital One Platinum last month. Need to let EQ and EX recover for a while, now. Too bad no one pulled TU - ZERO INQs.

I was pretty happy with the Discover, figured I'd stay in the garden for a while. Got a preapproval from Citi, liked the 18 month 0% BT option and the 2% cash back. Never carried a balance on any of my cards, but I figure it's good backup for the next couple months - Just bought a house with owner financing, might be a reasonable option to take the 3% hit rather than delve into my liquid cash reserves. I'd rather stay a transactor, though.

Wanted to add some data points: Discover pulled only EX, Citi pulled only EU.

Are you new to credit? If so how did you manage to get the Citi DC I'm really interested in the card, but I'm holding off for now. I only have the Discover It Student and JetBlue Mastercard, only 10 months of credit history so far.

Yeah - Seven months of history as of June 4th (latest statement from my first card). Before that I was a non-entity to the credit bureaus.

Not too sure what I did to get it. I've always PIF before my statement cuts, then put a Red Bull or something on the card in the couple day interim before my utilization is sent in. Never reports more than a couple %.

I check the preapproval sites a couple times a week - Last month (month my FICO score got generated), I got a preapproval for an unsecured Capital One Platinum card. App'd, got approved. Then the Discover IT and Citi DC this week.

My income is about $35k, 22 years old. I was kinda surprised when the preapproval popped up, more surprised when I got an approval.

Wow! Congrats to you! That's basically what I do as well. It's great to see someone with short history get the Citi DC. I don't think I'll be applying for anything until November though, so I'm at 6 months with my JetBlue card. I'm only 19 so I can't get pre quals yet, and I only make $16,000 in income so I don't think I'd be approved regardless. Keep up the good work!

19? Oh... The days... Anyways, If you get a CapOne secured card now and manage that for a year or so, by the time you can get the pre-quals, they'll be rolling in. Most CC companies don't check income, so... Also, the CapOne will usually bump you after 6 months to a regular and then you can go for a QS or something. Just stay on top of it i.e. no late pays or maxing it out. I went from a First Premier Bank CC with a 300 limit to over 20k in combined limits over about 1 1/2 years. It can be done, It takes a lot of self control. BTW, all that, and I'm only making 17k a year, so, go figure.
