CLI Happy on Gap and Old Navy Store Cards

In June I opened an old navy card ($400 limit) and Gap card ($250 limit). It's been about three months and Old Navy is now at $5,000 and Gap is at $6,000. All of my luck has come from utilizing the much talked about Chat feature. The love button almost always tells me no. I've even gotten some increases within 2 weeks of each other. All soft pulls.

FYI, I generally ask for a large amount and let them counter. I've carried a small balance on both (less than $100). I love these cards for helping with utilization!

A bit off-topic, but why do you have both cards if they share a rewards program? Are you using one for UTIL purposes?

Yes, it's more for utilization. I app'd for the Old Navy Card first and since I was approved I figured I would also be approved for the Gap Card so I applied for it that same day. The limits were much lower than I thought I would have been approved for, so initially the utilization didn't help me as much as I had hoped it would. However, now it helps tremendously as the cards are both at a zero balance and usually paid off or paid down relatively low.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Having enough zero balances is often overlooked in people's UTIL strategies.

+1. After heavy Care Credit activity I concur that my scores have stabilized, not much loss because I paid off a bunch of cards, but the overall debt increased. CareCredit shot up 80% util July/August.

I hope OP does well and gets the upgrades.
