Discover auto CLI...WHAT???

Got an email today informing me of a recent credit increase on my discover card. Old limit = $2800. New limit = $14000. Uh, what??? So I go online to discover and log onto my account. Sure enough Congrats, new line $14000! I just got a $11200 AUTO CLI from Discover!!!

Wow congrats! Now that's a CLI increase! How long have you had your card? Do you put much spend through?

Wow! Congratulations, that is awesome! I'm still waiting to get my first one. Can you share how many you got before this one, and possibly how much you use the card? I'm trying to utilize a lot, making several payments per month, and controlling the UTL that reports. Having some more data points would be amazing. Again, congrats!

I got the card in early-mid 2015. The initial limit was 1300. On 11/17/15 I apped for a cli and was approved for another 1500 bringing the limit to 2800.I don't use the card a lot, but I did use it for a larger purchase some time ago, and few piddly thing now and then. It has a current balance of $790. I make maybe twice the minimum payment, sometimes less, but always more than the minimum. Heck, I even accidentally missed a payment once a few months ago. I got an email from them asking if I had forgot something. I checked my spreadsheet and sure enough, I had missed it somehow. In total panic mode, I went online and made a payment twice the minimum and called them immediately. The nice girl said she saw the payment was pending and all was good. She even asked me if I wanted to set up automatice payments for the minimum just in case It happened again. Of course I said Heck Yeah! Fortunately, it's not come to that again, but I do like the piece of mind. If I make a payment, the auto payment doesn't happen.

I have no idea why Discover did this. Frankly, I'm in shock.

Thanks for sharing all that! Maybe I can use it to try to do exactly what you did. I'm going to say congratulations again...I don't think once was enough!

now you know they like you and it's required to go in there and hit the CLI button again to see if they have anything for dessert on top of the $11K they already dished up. Good Luck and let us know if you get some more moolah!

Having a good idea on how they operate at this point it's lilkely to be an instant approval with the slider thing or at worst a 2 day message resulting in a massive increase. There's been quite a few recent postings showing CLI's in the $7K neighborhood let alone this massive AUTO increase here.

Against my better judgement, I tried for another cli. Denied, 3-5 day letter. The bear was kind enough to toss me a beautiful fat salmon, no questions asked. I just had to go and poke him with a stick. I hope he doesn't now chase me down the beach and take it back

It will be okay. They don't AA for a CLI request. It's a SP. At least now you know you have everything off the table and can set a reminder for say 90 days to try again. For a while I was pushing the button weekly just to see if I could figure out the timing of the CLI's and build some data points.

@Anonymous -> FIRST OFF HOLY CRAP BATMAN! That is an awesome, awesome Auto CLI. BRAVO! Could you provide a few data points if you're comfortable?

1.) In your signature that you have several accounts around or at $12,000? ..are those newer accounts or older than the Discover?

2.) Could you share your current FICO 08 TU Score from Discover, and maybe what they were each month for 3-4 months?

3.) If you know your Experian FICO 08, that would be great, and its history in the same time frame? Discover Regulary SP's both.

I'm curious if there has been a steady or more recent abrubt increase in your score(s) because your 4 highest credit lines average $11,375 (just over the CLI you got)
