I have no idea. I'm dying to know too. They do not list a 1-800 number on the website to call. I think I will have to call the main branch tommorrow to find out.

Yes, it was instant. No POI required (yet). I heard that they requested bank statement from another person on here. However, I've never heard of requesting POI after getting the approval.

Received ICBC UnionPay card. It's beautiful!

Got the card in the mail today. $8,000 limit, 12.99% APR. It has a gold shimmer when moved around. It has a pagoda security emblem on the back.

The card also has UnionPay Quick Pass (tap and pay).

Downside was I tried to use it at a gas pump and it would not move past the zip code prompt. Guess the pump didn't recognize the card since my Freedom card was approved instantly.

Sorry to hear it didn't work at the gas pump... have you been able to successfully use it anywhere else? If so, did the merchant specifically take Union Pay, or did it process as a Discover Card?

I only got it about an hour ago so I haven't been able to try it anywhere else yet. I'll have to try at different places and report back. Hopefully I won't have too many issues lol.

And which state are you in? I see UnionPay logos in California occasionally, but rarely on the east coast.

Yes, UnionPay is supposed to operate like JCB and run on the Discover network in the US when the merchant doesn't explicitly say they take the card. I'm in South Carolina and the only place I have seen a UnionPay logo is Walmart. However, I have also read that the chip on the card will not work unless the merchant explicitly takes UnionPay. Otherwise, swiping is the only option (which is faster and more convenient.).

A few days ago I was in Wal-Mart and being in a hurry I swiped my Discover instead of inserting it... the terminal prompted me to insert instead. I can see how it could be 'YMMV' at Discover merchants, especially if there's an issue reading the UnionPay chip.

It will be interesting to see going-forward how they refine the JCB/UnionPay as Discover functionality.

Is there even a native UnionPay network in the US? I'd imagine that most if not all of the businesses that display the UP logo are doing so mainly because of Discover.
