This one is a big deal for me because it means I am officially back in with all of the creditors I burned back in 2009. For some reason, that was a very important goal for me to reach. Now it has been accomplished at least a year ahead of when I thought it would happen.

I burned Citi, Cap One, Chase, Discover, BBVA, Synchrony and a few others back in 2009. I went years with no credit, dealing with collections calls, judgments, garnishments, you name it. In Sept 2015 I began rebuilding. I worked on paying off everything I could and I also got a $500 Cap One QS 1 card.

Fast forward to now and everything has been paid, my scores have come up 150-250 points, I am down to 2 months or so before my last baddie falls off and, thanks to a very unplanned app spree last month, I now I have almost double the amount of available credit than I had "back in the day". My utilization is at 8% and will never go above 15% unless there is some crazy life event that happens. I have more than learned my lessons when it comes to credit.

Sept 2015 - Cap One QS1 approved $500 (now a Quick Silver with a $3,750 limit); Also discovered MyFico

Oct 2015 - Cap One Platinum MC $500 --> $750

Feb 2016 - Got a few store cards via SCT as well as both the WalMart card ($400 now $5,000) and Amazon Prime store card ($800 now $6,000), which meant I was back in with Synchrony

April 2016 - Got approved for a $200 secured card with Discover (now unsecured with a $1,000 CL)

April 2016 - Paid my AMEX charge off in full and got approved for the AMEX Optima Oasis ($900)

Dec 2016 - Got approved for the Chase Amazon Visa ($3k), the Chase Fairmont ($5k), and the Citi Costo ($5,500) which meant I was back in with Chase and Citi

Dec 2016 - Received a few utterly shocking approvals from USAA ($12k and $10k) and Wells Fargo ($9k)

Jan 2017 - Got approved for the Belk Rewards card ($200 --> $2,500) -- this was important because it was the actual account that I burned. App'd last Feb and was declined.

Jan 2017 - Got approved for the BBVA Compass ClearPoints Rewards $7,000 -- this was the last creditor on my "back in" list

I won't really count my goal as 100% complete until I have legacy cards with Citi, Chase and AMEX but at least I am back in the door. and this is more than I expected at this point. I figured I'd be blacklisted for years to come. I have been declined for legacy cards with Citi and Chase but the decline reasons do not mention past history. With Chase it was the 5/24 rule and with Citi it was too many inquiries.

When I app'd for the BBVA card on a whim the other day I full expected a decline. I was more interested in seeing what the reason was. I was shocked to the point of tears when I opened my app on Wednesday night and saw that a new account had been added to my profile. I was even more shocked by the limit since it was more than double what I had before. Also because they pulled TU and I have a crap ton of inquires, plus all the new accounts (more than what I have mentioned).

The good news is that my scores are actually going up because baddies are falling off at the same time that new accts or inquiries are hitting the report so any negative score implications have, to this point, been nonexistent.

It is a little odd to have this goal complete when I thought it was so far off. It's a little like "Well, what now?". I do have some "dream"cards that I want eventually, as well as a few other lenders that I'd like "in" with but those will have to wait a while. Needless to say I am in the garden for a few years to try and get ready to buy a home but, after so many years of being in the credit dumps it fees kind of amazing to be well on the road to getting it all back, and more!

To anyone re-building, just keep up the work and eventually you will get there! Maybe even sooner than you thought!

Super Congratulations!! I have BBVA Clear Points too. I just redeemed some points as a statement credit. When you say "legacy" card with Amex, are speaking of one of the charge cards?

Congrats to you, Cam, on accomplishing so much in 16 months time! A very detailed, informative post, and one that many of us can relate to! Very honorable of you that you paid off your debts from 2009 - this alone helped you get back in and with good graces to boot! Enjoy all of your successes - you definitely proved that you are worthy of them!

@UncleB wrote:

@Anonymous wrote:

Oct 2015 - Cap One Platinum MC $500 --> $750

Huge congrats!

I can relate to your situation more than you might imagine...
