NFCU approval + instant cli possible?

Hey all,

Finally got the problems with NFCU membership worked out, went into branch on Monday 8 May and funded savings and checking.

On 5/10 I decided to app for CC. Got 1 day wait, manual review.

Today at 7 a.m. I had still not recieved email about approval or denial, but logged into NFCU and there is a new account with a $5500 limit and $12 fee applied for expedited processing. (I tend to be impatient).

I was hoping for a larger line of credit so I could transfer the balances on several of my cards to one card.

My question is this, since I do not have an official, in my hand, letter/email saying it is approved is it possible for me to contact them and ask for a recon on a higher limit? or will it just be a blanket NO? I don't want another HP and since they just did a manual review, that should count as the AR, right?

P.S. as I was typing this I got a notice that FEDEX package was just signed for from Columbus Ohio that was given to FEDEX last night at 5:27 p.m. and since i had no packages due, I can only imagine it is the card. Going to go to pick it up soon.

You can always ask but it's very likely you will be told they need to see some history with your current limit first. Give it 90 days and 3 statements with them and hit the CLI button and you'll likely be rewarded handsomely if you treat them right. Congratulations on the approval! NFCU rocks and they will take care of you if you treat them right!

Send them a message through account to see, or call in and ask about a higher limit. As mentioned though, you will most likely need to wait at least 3 months

My sl wasn't as high but I did attempt this to just be told they would like to see 90 days of history first.

I may try it. The FEDEX package was my card so the 12 bucks was well spent. so I have to call an activate I might try then.

Hi Nolamike, glad they finally approved you. The best news is even though you didnt get what maybe you expected, $5500 im confident that its high enough that when you go for cli in 3-6 months you will sport one of those massive cli increases. You could always start with my $500 and take the Horn of Africa approach to cli that ill be on

This has been my one main gripe with Navy, apart the sl lol, is the lack of proper communication. Apply and wait to get reply on status, nope, no emails no sms, have to log in to your account. Apply for cli, no responses, only know if your approved if you see your account or get a letter in the mail like a week later. I wish they would at least send an email saying your status. But thats just me. Enjoy your new card

Congrats on your approval, just keep your UTi low and in 90 days plus 3 statements you will likely see a very nice CLI

thanks, I had to put stuff on my other cards due to the tornado's that hit us not to long ago so overally my UTI is about 24-26% with a couple cards in the 70% range. I was hoping for (and obviously did not get) a high enough initial limit to move some stuff to a lower interest rate card.

As it stands instead of that I will just payoff the other cards as quickly as I can before I CLI with NFCU, and keep this card clean-ish so when I do CLI it should show usage and payment history, but still be able to pay off the others.

Thanks for that, and I really don't know about the "Horn of Africa" approach to CLI, it does not sound like a quick path, and I am a really impatient person on this stuff. I usually don't think about it, but when I do I focus like a laser and don't shut off until I get what i want. LOL. it can be a real annoying habit.

I sent a SM to them right after I picked up the card this morning, and no reply yet, not even a notice that got the message, so of course I am not amused about it, but then considering the process so far it is par for the course.

I explained the situation and maybe the credit gods will smile and they will reevaluate things and up my limit. Not holding my breath but it would be nice.

Lol, i call my journey the Horn of Africa route as you know its like taking the long way to get from one place to another and since they only gave me 500, even with 700+ fico, and my low income, it might be a long time before i break even a k lol

Dont give up hope yet on getting your original limit increased. I think it might be better to call and ask to speak to a LO or recon via phone . I think SM for Navy stands for Sallie May, and shes r.i.p ing with Sir Barclays .

How long have you been with NFCU? have you cli'd yet? a 700 score with otherwise clean credit would seem to merit more than 500...

I am thinking you are right on Sallie Mae....UGH. sadly my student loans are with her progeny, Navient....yuck.

2 people died on my street, 1 directly from the tornado, one from a heart attack while under rubble of their house.

I was lucky compare to most, at least I could afford to get into a hotel asap, and buy building materials and hire folks to get my house repaired. We are still waiting on insurance payouts & FEMA as the great state of Louisiana is as messed up politically as any third world nation. It is a mess.

odd little update to this thread.

I decided to send a secure message asking them what options I had to possibly consolidate my other credit card debt as I planned to when I originally applied.

I was adament that I was not looking for another hard pull and that all I wanted was information.

so just now, 5/12/2017, I get an alert from Equifax that NFCU pulled my credit.

As I understand things, to open an account and for credit cards nfcu pulls TU, which CK shows they did and MyFico reported there was new inquiry on TU but no one else yesterday.

I also understand that NFCU pulls EQ for PLOC's and CLOC's etc, basically for loans.

Now this. I now have another HP on EQ for a total of 9 including Cox. That is not alot, but considering they are all in a period of 8 months it might look high to other potential lenders.

The paperword that came with my card (sent overnight and for 12 bucks it was a great deal) did not include any "internal" score that I see others talk about.

It will be interesting to see what if any response I get to my Secure Message or in the mail as I have NOT applied for any type of loan.

Will post again if and when I know anything.
