Citi Costco approved after a year of trying

A couple of days ago I applied for the Sears Mastercard. They pulled TU and I got an immediate decline due to inq's (69). Applied for the Costco card this morning and they pulled EX with 49 inq's. Received message to call in. Called and spoke with underwriting. Was on hold for about 15 minutes. The rep would come back every few minutes and say she needed an additional 3-4 minutes to complete my application. I'm back to the pre-chase CLD level.

I certainly was because she came back like 3 times to say she needed another 3-4 minutes to complete the processing. The last time she said hold for another 3-4 minutes for her colleague to finalize the application. Geez I was nervous.

Thanks Woodyman. I'm surprised that citi hasn't been nice to you. You have a good array of cards. They seem to have warmed up to me a little bit for new cards, cli's not so much.

That's great 12njoy. Happy you got an approval. Now i'm curious since you got in with 49 inq can i get in with a few more than you say 30 more lol. Some lenders are inquiry sensitive and others are not. I've found out which are which thru trial and error. every card i have wanted i have gotten thru persistence. I am persistent and if i don't suceed i just keep trying again. That's why i have so many it's been a two year work in progress. Started my rebuild and got everything negative deleted and started over and it has worked out well for me. Started with 300.00 capital one card and then a walmart card and an amazon card and have worked my way up from there. My highest limit on a bankcard is 10k but when your income is only 30k i figure that is good for a limit. And higher limits when reported beget higher limits because other lenders see what your limits are and they consider that when doing an approval.

Wow congrats 12. That's a fairly nice SL on it too. I continue to be amazed at your approvals and the resulting DP's. They have help me on more than a few of my approvals as well.

Congrats on the Costco approval!

Citi can definitely be peculiar... last May when I app'ed for my Diamond Preferred I got to play the phone hold game; it was definitely the most strange (and stressful) approval process of all my cards.

Just a couple of days ago I tried for a CLI and it was denied due to 'too many new accounts' - I added five in January. Not totally unreasonable I guess, but just another sign that things are changing. I might try again in a month or so once the newbies are past the six-month mark... thankfully it's just academic at this point for me with Citi. I included them in BK7 back in 2000 so really I'm just thankful to be back in at all. At some point I might try for Costco myself (once things settle down a bit, of course).

Enough of my rambing... again, congrats on Costco!

They are very strange indeed when it comes to inq's. I think the last 6 months are very important to them.

Thanks. It was touch and go. I began to think a denial was coming. I'm going to push the envelope further and try for another citi card in 8 days.
