Fifth Third Bank approved SL of $12k (PNC....ummmm....no)

I read on this board someone got a pretty good SL from Fifth Third Bank on the Truly Simple CC so I gave it a shot. I only thought about it because I asked for CLI at Huntington and I was approved 10x from $1k to $10k. I applied at Fifth Third for the Truly Simple card and I was instantly approved SL of $12k.

That felt good, so I stumbled onto the PNC website and applied....ummmmm......NO!!

5/3 is the hometown team here in Cincinnati but I don't do any business with them. Back in the early 90s, I had a checking account with them. My payroll checks were drawn on 5/3, AT THE SAME BRANCH, and if I deposited my check on Friday it wouldn't clear in my account until Tuesday morning. That turned me off on that bank and I've never dealt with them since. Of course I was living hand-to-mouth at that time and the 3 day lag was a pain in the neck.

Congrats on the 5/3 approval! PNC is pretty conservative.

Congrats! on your 5/3rd approval.

Do you have a bank relationship at all with PNC? It's been posted before that they mostly if not exclusively won't approve without one but maybe someone more familiar with them can weigh in on that with more accuracy.

We bank with PNC but even with an ongoing banking relationship the bank tends to be pretty stingy with CLIs and tough to get approvals on. I was in a branch today and they had REALLY nice bifold brochures for their PNC Premier Travel card...not sure how badly I'd want that card but the promotional piece was on very nice paper and looks amazing.

Conservative for sure. I got approved for the PNC Core card last year, with a $15k limit, 19% APR... but I've also had a checking account there for 15+ years, and they pulled EX, which was like 780 at the time. I used it for a 0% BT, always paid big chunks on time. Scores were still good, so I asked for a CLI after 10 months. I was denied, and it was a HP! They said I had too many balances on revolving accts. which isn't untrue, lol.
