I recently posted about an Amex Approval I had, with low credit scores and collections.

As a dual national, I work alot in the caribbean for my company. I just found out that I'm going to be in Barbados for 3 weeks, and Barbados's acceptance of AMEX is horrible. Wanting another card besides the US bank card I have that doesn't have ForEx fees, just in case.( I know my discover/Cap 1 secured cards don't have them. But what good is a $200CL on a business trip when you have to expense stuff)

I was feeling really lucky and decided to app for BoA Travel Rewards. App went pending. Called CA dept, talked to a lady about my app and my collections. She asked what they were for and the amount of new accounts I have. Kept putting me on hold. Came back asked about my AU tradeline with Amex. Put me on hold again. Came back and said Well this is what I can offer you. Approved for 6k Visa Signature.

I think I had a minor stroke hearing it. I was expecting to get a grand, maybe two if I was super lucky. and deff wasnt planning on getting my own visa signature tradeline.

Bank of America must be on drugs, or really need the business. Thats a huge tradeline for someone with my scores and the fact that I have collection accounts.

They pulled Experian, same as Amex. I've looked at that report. Its probably the cleanest one I have since it only has the collection accounts. My student loan late 120's arent showing on that report.

Seriously done app'ing. Im at 8 or 9 inquires on every report. Just wasnt expecting to go somewhere that AMEX coverage is almost non Existant.

And that's insane! I was denied Amex and BofA with a much stronger profile -- wonder what your secret magic is!

Congrats, and have a good productive trip.

Just remember the US dollar is 2-1 in BIM.

They accept the USD greedily it is a second currency in the country.

So walk with a couple hundred dollars in small bills.

Barbados is where I hold citizenship at. I was born there, which is why I can work in any of the CARICOM countries without a work premit for short amounts of time.

What # did you call? I was denied, then I called their 800 number and asked about a recon. The lady told me that I had to write a letter..

Great job on the recon! Their analysts are always a pleasure to deal with.

For those looking to recon, you'll want to speak with a senior credit analyst that is empowered to make underwriting decisions. Just be careful, as they'll sometimes try to sweet-talk you into moving every financial product over to them! LOL The number can be found in the Backdoor Numbers thread.
