Discover CLI....hope I am not dreaming! UPDATE!

So after getting approved for discover in April 2012 for $1700 with a BK and trying for CLIs starting at the 6 month mark and being denied for having a BK reporting. I got my last letter a few days ago listing BK again. I called the recon # and got transferred to the head senior analyst and he looked at denial reasons and said my debt was to high and too many accts with a balance. I said how is that possible since the reports I just looked at shows all but 2 accounts with a zero balance. I also asked how could I be denied a CLI for a BK when I was approved with one.
He said well I see you had asked for a 5K limit and asked why. I told him that any increase would be fine I just said 5K hoping for a counter offer. I also said that I would like to have a high enough limit to use and not to have to make a payment every time the charge posted so I could use it again. So after a 2 minute hold and another HP APPROVED for 5K. Then he told me to have fun shopping and earning cash back!
No income questions just what are the charges on my NFCU accounts for.

UPDATE----- So after my CLI the other night, today I noticed a balance transfer offer on my account that was going to expire today for 0%, so I thought that I would give Discover a call and see if I would have been approve for more had I asked for more. And after a "life time hold" he came back with 10, 001! Not a typo, he said he wanted to beat my Lowes limit. So from 1700 to 10,001 in less than 48 hrs with Discover.

It sure does! I was just tired of being denied because of a BK after being approved with one. It made no sense and I told him that.

Also my account was at zero after making my 4th payment last night in 3 weeks. Not sure if that would help someone looking for CLI info but it helped prove my point of a limit not being high enough.

3300 from Discover is just awesome to me! It makes me wonder what I could have been approved for. But if it stays at 5K forever I will be ok with that too.

So is the nature of this credit card world of chance. No different then casinos IMO.

You stood firm on bringing out what needed to be considered.

They approve with a BK then try to make it an issue after the fact. I say great determination OP.

I agree. I am tired of this BK holding me back.

I never had credit prior to having my BK. I always paid my bills in cash and not just on time but early.

Try explaining that in a recon. They must think I am crazy when I say that. Some how a couple medical bills from the ER didn't get to me after moving, and didn't get paid for 2 years. Once paid, they continued to sell off the paid accounts and it kept getting reported more than 12 years after the fact. I was uneducated, only myself to blame. I found the wrong info online and thought if I filed BK that it would all go away. I filed BK to get rid of "paid debt". Then I found this forum while waiting for discharge and found out how to dispute, etc. By the time discharge came my report was clean except for a "filed, pending BK".

So now I have 5 more years for a BK to report.

So now, once I read something and learn all I can and think I am done, I start again, and do that 2 or 3 times more to be fully educated. No more 10 year mistakes for me. It is costly, but only because I started to use credit, in terms of interest rates.

I could save money and just keep paying cash, but how would I build credit. Catch 22.
