Recently got to 4/24, which means I have been holding off apping for quite some time.

Got Altitude Reserve in September, because the bonus and Mobile Wallet category made sense, plus the travel credit and GoGo In Flight WiFi certs.

Was trying to decide on Chase Sapphire Reserve vs Preferred.

But I also made Delta Silver Medallion for 2018, and don't really want to give that up. So effectively on January 1, 2018 I already got out of my initial Resolutions list by apping the Delta Reserve card. The 10,000 MQM for $3k spend is enticing. I'll have to see how to PC/Combine with my Delta Platinum either in mid-year or next Janauary 1.

Update 2: Went through the screens for a CLI at PenFed. Language indicates it may be a HP. PenFed Promise increase from $16,500 to $35,000.

As data points, this leads to 5 AMEX Revolvers plus PRG, total Revolver limits of ~~$64,700~~ $55,000 with never a 4506-T, not now, and not while getting to $50k revolver limits earlier. This is ~~40%~~ 34% of gross income, so I will use that metric if I close any revolvers.

CSP/CSR is still on the radar, since my next 5/24 --> 4?24 change happens within two weeks, then to 3/24 after March 2018.

UPDATE: CSP apped Monday, went 30-day message. No action on my part. Today Thursday 11Jan a $30k limit CSP is in my Chase app listing. It’s been a long wait to get to this approval

Well I got the "we reallocated your limits" letter in the mail.

What they didn't tell me at the time of the instapproval was the total credit line increase was just $5,000. Took funds from my Delta Platinum card to make the Delta Reserve look fancy

That's cool. Still total credit of $55k on AMEX, and I've got some closures to do later this year to get my AMEX AF reduced.

There is still no HP note on MyFico from this Jan 2 AMEX app, so I took the risk of apping Chase Sapphire Preferred two days ago. Went to 30 day message, have not called them to check. The CSP seemed the more appropriate card to get, as I already have benefits from other expensive cards, the 50k UR are the same SUB, and I'm very likely transferring most or all of these out to Hyatt, so the redemption rate isn't a factor. The CSP HP showed up, the AMEX HP still has not.

@NRB525 congratulations on both the approval and your Medallion status! Did you get the MQDs the hard way or through $25k in spend? With only 1 or 2 family flights a year and none for business, it didn't seem as though I'd get any Delta status even with the MQM bonus on Platinum since I can't bring myself to earn SkyMiles instead of Starpoints (which in practice convert 1:1.25 anyway).

I haven't heard of Amex automatically reallocating credit lines (a la BoA), so thanks for the very valuable data point! Biding my time until the new Marriott cards are announced, and I'll be trying to go for the gold (or purple, at least) with a 3X CLI request on my SPG later this month. If SPG is announced as going to Chase, I'll likely reallocate my credit line substantially (either back to Blue or to my Delta card) before it happens, but I hadn't even considered that they might take some of that away on a new card for me.

I got medallion status the hard way. Earned during 2016, which means I started seeing the benefits in upgrades while earning again in 2017, am set for 2018 but my company is unpredictable as to how much travel I do in a year. With my experience flying in 2017, I see a different calculation of the value of Delta AMEX spend

I had my SPG cycle starting in 2015 with a three week stay in a Westin. Sign up bonus and other mixes led to most of two Hawaii stays having lots of the hotel cost covered. Maui November 2017 for 5 nights. Now with no obvious method to earn lots of Starpoints, the card is not getting as much use, though I may get to one more 20,000 point decision.

Yeah, I was surprised at the reallocation also. Both my Delta Platinum and SPG had $20k limits, but they took from the Delta for the new Delta card, during the moments of the instapproval, so I think that Delta ecosystem within AMEX may be more tightly linked than we thought. Now that I have this sign up bonus, I will likely keep the Reserve during 2018, the Delta Platinum has a renewal fee mid-year but I will probably pay that, cancel this new Reserve at the end of the year, and PC my Delta Platinum to a Reserve on Jan 1 2019. The Delta Platinum has the history from first opening as a Delta Gold in 2013.

Apped CSP on Monday, went to 30 day message. I didn't do anything, except research here what others' experience is. I have never called to check on an application, and this was no different. (...well, ok, over a month after my first botched PenFed app in 2014 I called...)

Checked on-line today, and a new CSP is in my Chase accounts, $30k limit.

Puts me at $60,500 with Chase, including a $1,500 Freedom card that got CLD from $3,500 several years ago.

My last app with Chase was Marriott then Hyatt in Dec 2014, Jan 2015. Then 5/24 became a thing and so it's been a long wait. I tried in branch for CSR in the spring of 2017 to try to get the 100k UR but that was denied because I was still well over 5/24. That made me hesitant about this app, so the 30 handle is smile worthy.

When the Delta Reserve shows up as a new account in about a month, I hope I don't get AA

I went through the PenFed CLI screens, language looks like it's a HP most likely, but figured it's going to be my only CC, so see what happens.

Increase from $16,500 to $35,000 instant. Highest limit yet.

I also have not seen any indication of a HP from AMEX for the Delta Reserve. My total AMEX limits went from $50,000 to $55,000, reallocated limit from the Delta Platinum over to the Delta Reserve, so effectively only a $5k AMEX limit increase.

I have not requested any CLI or allocations from AMEX in at least 6 months. Before that I did some reallocations, but I think my last increase request was over a year ago. The Delta Gold was PC'd to Delta Reserve mid-year 2016 with no change in limit.

My theory about this is: AMEX looked at my account, decided there was room on a SP CLI to do so, and that the Delta Reserve would be a "parallel upgrade" from the Delta Platinum. Thus, no HP necessary.

Previously I theorized that AMEX would run the SP numbers to preauthorize such an app for an existing customer, and then if the app for the new card was approved, tag the credit bureau with a HP notice. That still likely applies if you get a brand new additional card, but in my situation, at my max AMEX exposure at $55k, they felt it was not necessary. They could not just give me a new card at $20k anyhow, in other words. A nice consolation prize, no HP, for only getting a $5k bump in limits, and the opportunity to earn the SkyMiles and the MQM bonus.

I gotta tell ya from my experience you are no where near maxed with Amex. lol
You could be temporarily maxed out.
I went through something similar a few months ago. Where they gave me a small increase and moved limits around similar to yours.

A month later they gave me another $14k or so in exposure. Your income is much, much higher than mine big bank Hank NRB! lol
My Amex exposure is a little over $67,000.
Only thing holding yours down is time.
In six months, they'll give you more if you want it.
