I've been abroad since last month and will be returning in March. So I figured I'd churn one more card. I received a mailer yesterday from American Airlines with an "invitation to apply" code. I applied and was instantly approved for $3k. Don't mind the low limit since I'm planning to use it for the 60k AA miles.

Data Points:

Experian Hard pull 678 California

No Prior relationship with Citi

Lots of inquiries and new accounts

Was declined last month (December) for the Executive version

Income $62k

Experian hard pull of 678 but your scores in your sig are way higher! Any new data points on your score changes that might reflect why you were denied on the other card at a higher score but approved on this one? So weird!

Citi has been sending me mailers every 2-3 weeks for cards I don't want or need but I would consider one of the AA cards after my gardening gets me CSP/CSR because my dad loves AA and I'd like to fly with him 2-3 times a year. Since we'd be on separate itineraries (him and I flying to the same destination but laying over in the same city, departing from different cities), I'd need my own card to get the free bag or whatever. Worth a $95 annual fee even if I earned nothing of value. Heck, I'd consider paying $500 annual fee to fly more with pops and get some perks, haha. Can't put a value on that kind of thing.

I found it weird as well. Perhaps the invitation to apply code performed a miracle

This month I had my last three recent accounts report. But what really impacted my credit scores was asking my brother to add me on his "oldest account" in hopes of helping the length of credit. I had no idea he was carrying a large balance which made my utilization go through the roof. His expenses are all home improvement which will be paid down soon so not too worried about that.

The stated reasons I was declined for the Executive AA last month were

*Too many inquiries

*Too many recent new accounts

My Experian score was in the 720s. So I am very puzzled by this approval. FYI the email with the code came from AA and not Citi.

Congrats! I’m envious here...I get those AA invite emails often because I’m a FF. But my CR has a big fat BK, so I know it’ll be a decline. Just waiting till Barclays lets me in since my TU is clean. They HATE my 23 inq....so now I garden.
