Discover IT- Starting Line Question

After considerable back and forth internal debate I decided to apply for a Discover It after getting an online pre-approval with 0%/14 months/then 12.24%. To apply, I had to unlock my report and, because I put a fraud alert on my EQ account, had to talk to a rep in order to be approved. Upshot is that I was approved for a $12.5k SL, which was a bit confusing/disappointing. Does Discover do $20k/30k + starting lines? Oddly, I didn’t get a HP alert from MyFico but it is showing up as a HP on my CR when I checked it with TrustedID.

I app'd last week (thues 1/25) and got an 8K starting line. I still have no hard pull showing from them.

I received an email from them this morning I should have my card in 3 or 4 days

That is a very very good SL for discover.. Discover usually hands out disappointing SL's compared to other cards with your scores and most likely your other limits. Although that is still a very good SL for discover every 3 months or so you can request a SP CLI and depending it will be from say 500 to 5k each one. It will grow, but how fast all depends on Discover as no one here can figure them out on this forum persay.

Needless to say you are probably in the top 5% of people with that SL many others get 1-4k SL. Highest I think I have seen has been 20kish, but that is VERY rare, so you did well for them.

That’s a fantastic Discover SL. I got one at $9K and since my approval in October, I’ve only seen one approval at $10K and one at $11K.

As aforementioned above, you can SP increase with Discover.

I apped for a Discover it on 1/11 and received a SL of $9500 with a soft pull. I do use their Scorecard for a monthly free Experian score, and think that may be part of the reason it was only a soft pull. However, lots of people have reported SPs when apping with them lately.

Congrats on your Discover approval.

Discover gave me a $10,000 SL last August with FICO scores in the 640s; then in November they gave me a CLI to $13,000. Both were soft pulls.

Does disco give SL of $20k and up yes. However, those would extremely RARE as I have not seen a SL of that reported on these boards. Congratulations on getting a great SL with disco!

Thanks for all the useful information! Mine was definitely an hp- wish it were otherwise if they are issuing cards with only a sp, but I agreed to an hp when I applied and therefore have no right to complain. It’s an 8 point hit to my EQ score just for the hp. I didn’t understand (my fault) that Discover has lower CLs. I was deciding between Discover It and Capital One Venture and perhaps made the wrong choice. In any event, no more applications for me for at least another two years barring something extraordinary. Getting two cards (I also recently got a CSR) in the same month, much less the same year is unheard of in my credit history and constitutes a “spree.” Time to get out the rake and fertilizer and start gardening!

Hey, OP, a $12.5k SL with discover is nothing to frown upon either. It will grow with SP clis and you may just get to 20k within 6 months. Who knows. Keep us posted and congrats!

You don't often see Disco with 20-30K SLs out of the gate...

Seeing over 10K is considered great by Disco standards..

Still likely your card will have some upward mobility...

I started in 2500 land... Now its 18,300... (Deep down i wish it would hit the 20K mark)..

Supposedly its stated that Disco starts income verification at 20K and up..
