AMEX Green Card Approved

Totally new to this forum as a poster but have reading it through Google Searches like crazy in recent years. Little background on my history. Had a car repo, went south on student loans, and had a few charge offs all the way through 2013. Just made a bunch of bad decisions in my early 20's and was not properly taking care of it. Only credit I had was a Secured Bank of America card which I closed when I realized how south financially I was and needed to rebound. My credit was in the absolute dumpster. I slowly built my way up using secured cards over the past 2 years where I got my score down in the 400's back up to an EX 647 as of this weekend. I took a shot in the dark on an AMEX Green Card today, out of the pure fact that I knew it was easier to get and I've always been fascinated with the green card forever (Classic Look!). Anyway, approved on the instant application today. Stunned, even though I know I'm in that range where approval was possible, just to be so used to the Instant Denials, to see it Approved. I almost fell off the chair.

OpenSky Secured $500 CL

Discover IT Secured $200 CL

Capital One Platinum Secured $200 CL

Credit One Unsecured $300 CL

$105K income, few charge offs on miscellaneous bills from 2012-2013.

$18K student loans, that have been corrected and being paid on-time for 18 months now.

Any thoughts on what to do next? I'm still basking in my glow of getting a legit charge card, I could careless about the benefits. Just having an Amex to use responsibly and keep my journey going is enough for me at the moment.

Credit One I'm closing ASAP. Does anyone have any input also on when DISCOVER IT and CAPITAL ONE SECURED's graduate? Well past the threshold on both of those and have never received an offer for them to go unsecured.

Big Congrats and big welcome to the forum. Though the green card isnt as favorable for rewards etc its still a nice entryway into Amex, imo, and you might check out another card from them that you might like. May be a good chance they give you another card on same hp, though its still possible another hp. If you like cash back, the BCE or MR points the ED . Once you get your profile in order, your income will open alot of doirs, especialy Amex and their 3x cli requests. GOOD LUCK and welcome again

How long does AMEX usually take to deliver the card...?

After I got the Approval, I was still in shock that I almost fell over.....BUT

I do remember seeing 3-5 business days before the screen reverted to Set Up You Account. I've been browsing through App/Online, not a whole lot of information the card being shipped out. Just that it's coming in the mail.

It took me about a week to get my green Amex card in the mail.

Congrats! I was approved for a PRG and an EDP on Wednesday (4/4) night. The approval for the PRG said to expect my card in 3-5 business days (just like your approval). I got an email on Saturday morning saying that my card had shipped Next Day Air and I would receive it on Monday (tomorrow). Hopefully, yours will be the same.

My EDP approval said to expect my card in 7-10 business days. I got an email this morning that said it shipped and I should receive it in 7-10 days. I am guessing that it shipped regular mail.

My Discover graduated at 9 months. It graduated after one of the collections that was somehow figured into utilization was showing most of it paid off (settled in full for couple months was reporting the forgiven amount). I think it was a 620 or so when it graduated (last month or so), but think Discover is big on utilization it seems least for me. I would PIF everytime a balance would post (daily) some months putting over $2000 on it.

Congrats on the Amex green card! It's always been one of my favorite designs with that classic look. I had really bad luck applying for it early in my credit career. I got turned down at least 3-4 times back in college when I had sub prime scores and a ton of inquiries. Even though the rewards aren't great, I might get the Green card some day for nostalgic purposes ; )

My advice to you at this point would be to use your existing cards regularly and make sure to place them on auto-pay. PIF all of them, carry a small $5-10 balance on one card only. You should see your scores gradually rise over the next 6-18 months with better offers rolling into your mailbox. Maybe keep your Credit One account open to help age your accounts for the time being, but close it after your scores increase to eliminate the annual fees.

I hear you on getting it for nostalgia, that was part of the reason I wanted to get it in the first place.

I paid for dinner for a group of friends with it over the weekend, they're not into credit cards, and thought I was some high roller or something. Little do they know they can probably get this with a 620 credit score

congrats just dont forget to pif with the greencard as you cant roll over a balance per month(i dont think at least) hence being easier to get

I started this time last year w/ the Discover IT Chrome($500 secured) and it just graduated to unsecured this month and I got my deposit back and a slight increase($750).

Same with my Cap 1 qs1- $300 secured and it graduated out of credit steps and got a CLI(to $500) in February.

I think it depends on your utilization and payment patterns since both are reviewd monthly and manually

Also forgot to mention: I myself just closed down my Credit 1 account as well. It was the first card I applied and recieved when starting my rebuild. If it wont affect your AAoA between your current card line up then just pay it off close it down

I wanted to keep this card when i downgraded my Platinum because of the look, but changed my mind after recalling that AF.
