Discover CLI question with balance???

I use my discover a lot... 1800 limit and right now I charged 1700 last month on travel... I'm going to pay the bill today but was only going to pay half... should I wait to ask for a CLI with less that 30% balance or pull the trigger now after payment post and try again in 31 days... my TU from their last update is 673...

My opinion of course, but with Discover there really is no perfect way to ask for a cli. They will either give you one or they wont. Sometimes it's best to wait until your monthly FICO score is updated but beyond that carrying a balance or not, it seems it really doesnt matter much. Again, my opinion

No one knows, Discover is kind of nutty. My guess is that it won't help you to pay off the balance because Discover seems to like people having and carrying balances. They've made public statements that that's the segment of the market they're really after.

Every time I've asked them for a CLI I've had a zero balance, and they've been very stingy with me ($300, only once in a while).

Is your discover currently your largest balance? (least as far as cards are concerned)

If so...

Heres my experience...

YMMV

I had a large balance on my Discover since it was on 0% apr.... i was close to maxxing it out... all other cards were at/close to zero.....

Hit the CLI button after a moderate payment posts..

Got the CLI... even though that card had pretty heavy utilization....

I also prefer to hit the CLI after making a payment, but also after discover does their monthly SP for the score....

So yes, discover isnt afraid to give a CLI with heavy utilization as long as its their card and not others with heavy util...

It's my 3rd highest balance under 2 store cards (zero APR) .... I got an auto CLI for 200 dollars 2 months ago... tried a double dip with no luck... actually had a goofy service rep so I gave up.. I'll pay the bill by half today let it post Monday and try for a CLI... I'm heading out for a cruise next month and would sure be happy with a CLI....

Also myfico TU shows my score dropped to 660 while Discover shows 673 of that makes any difference...

Like AJC said, she either gonna or she ain't..

I've gotten CLIs with them for the past 4 months, sometimes with a balance and without at other times.
Also, it may be better if you ask now , because next time they update Fico, it will show your new lower score.

Dont overthink it too much, it's not like they will come to your house and take your dog
( or a cat, however I hope you dont have a cat because cats are nuts and they hate you).

Nobody would want my French bulldog ! She is a walking vet bill !! Lol...one reason I need higher credit lines for sure... just in case... and my cat is very shady... lol... I just paid bill... going to let that post and then ask for cli on monday... will update...

If it were me id wait until a few days after your third statement... She might show you some auto luv..

But as many folks have said.. shes rather unpredictable esp as of late...

Regardless. id only bother her once a month after that, jiust think the rejection letters are a waste of paper and such...

Ok.. so i pulled the trigger before my score went down from opening 2 new accounts and higher balances... I got an $900 CLI today from the luv button, called in for a double dip and it was a nogo... Got card 11/2017 and have used quite a bit and paid to zero 3 times... i paid to 0 last week and it took 8 days to post my payment ... as soon as it did, i hit the luv.. went from $1600 in Nov, to an auto luv 2 months ago at 200 more, and now i hit luv button and got 900 more which gives me a credit line of $2700... Very happy with that !!!
