Capital One credit limit increase. So lame

I opened Cap 1 in February 2018 with $300 limit

Just got $200 cli. Lame but rebuilding sucks. It’s my oldest credit card so I just have to wait to get better cards. Can’t wait to get Amex and get rid of the subprime cards..

Congrats OP! I am sure eventually you will be able to build up the trade line. I remember very well being in the same boat where geting CLIs were non-existent or if they did it was a pity increase. With time, they will probably warm up to you and get you to the limit you want.

Good luck rebuilding, and stay postive. You can then get in with some of the other players that may open their doors (and credit limits) wide open!

Yes so far my CL is $4037 with my

Kohl’s $300, Lowe’s $337, BOA $500, PayPal $1500, Cap 1 $500, Credit One $600, Cap 1 quicksilver $300.

Thats enough cards at this point and my scores keep on going up.

Capital one cards take along time to grow from what I have read and am now experiencing just like you.

Opened my capital one card last year July 22nd ‘17 it was A platinum with $300 in credit steps, after 5 months I got the $200 to $500, 7 months I converted to qs, a few days ago I got a $500 increase to $1,000.

Gotta also remember CO1 Platinum cards are bucketed and will only grow so much.

Congrats on the CLI. Just be thankful for the $200 increase. I've had the Cap 1 GM card for well over 2 years and other than the Credit Steps CLI this thing hasn't budged a dime. Numerous requests have all received the same "Increases are not available for this type of account" response....which I still don't understand.

Platinum cards are not always bucketed. There are plenty of people here that have been able to grow a $500 line into 10s of thousands. Whether it's bucketed or not depends on how cap1 set up the account and your credit profile during application. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell until you start using it for a while.

How critical can one be when Cap One is the only decent bank that gives them ANYTHING?

They are one of the largest CC banks in America, so some people like them just fine (including me.)

Some people are able to develop a good relationship with Cap1 and kudos to them but some cannot and will not. *shrugs* Personal preference. They put themselves in my "How about no?" column when they started sending me pre-qual offers for cards i closed after a few years of toy limits, no PC or tiny CLIs. They served their purpose and didn't grow with me.

OP, stick it out and see where things go. They may treat you right BUT be advised your current card may get bucketed in which case you will may have to app for a new card once your profile improves. Best of luck!

I'm in the same boat with the GM card. Either it's going to go at some point, or hopefully they do something with it. I've been stuck at $500 for over a year....

Congratulations! I was in the same boat as you. I have had my Cap 1 card since 11/16 and my limit now is only $1,250. Now that I've acquired a few cards, I'm going to cancel this one before the AF hits in November of this year.

Amend ... I come to this forum late in my credit rebuild (which took nine plus years) and many here move on a fast track with acceleration. It still takes some time but not nine plus years. It was hard starting with a Cap1 CL of $200 but they opened my future credit doors! Remember when Chase asked on their credit applications to check the box if you have had a BK in the last few years (app was denied automatically). Took me about nine years to get a Citi Card and ten years to get Discover and FNBO. In today's credit world it seems to be more months than years. CLs may be small but, many grow with a good usage and performance track record

And as mentioned above, having a bucketed card just means that if you do like CapOne, like me (no issues other than I also wish the line was higher), you can always app for another when scores improve which is my plan. Started like you with a $300 line on a Plat, did a 3-month CLI to $400 and PC to a QS. My scores are up 50-60 points since then. May wait to go higher, around 680 or so and app for a new one. If I get a decent SL in the $3k or more range, I’ll combine cards and continue to enjoy it.
