Just Got my first American Express Card!

I am just now trying to rebuild my credit, with TU 694, EF 661, EX 669, so I have only one credit card for a few years, and have applied for two this weekend. Amex Magnet was the only one that appeared when I went to the Amex prequalify page, so I applied and was approved with a 2k limit. I also applied for the discover IT card and was approved for 8k limit. Just trying to make sure I do things appropriately so I grow my credit score.

Congrats on the approvals! Amex will give you 3x CLI after 61 days and also, if you DD your Disco, they usually give good CLI's.

I have a current credit report, pulled 1 day after approvals. I show 1 hard inquiry from American Express, but I show 0 inquiries from Discover.

James, yes, that is correct, American Express pulled from Experian.

Is the AmEX magnet card worth keeping after the first year, or should it be a card I product change into something else?

Congrats on the approvals. Amex was on my bucket list until last month when I finally applied and was approved for $4000 SL.

I personally would keep it...but again, better cards come out all the time and you might decide to close and change.

Congrats on your Amex Magnet approval. Once you become an Amex member you will get pre-approvals for the other cards they offer and you can have a max of five Amex personal credit cards. So actual product changes are not usually necessary.

Congrats!! I have to say I love AMEX .. they really are one of my favorites (not just because they like me lol), they will give you lots of love if you treat them right ..

but ..

if something spooks them they could do a CLD .. however they will restore immediately as long as you follow their request (usually make a payment 1/2 of bal)

Congrats on your approvals. Treat them right and they WILL treat you even better. They have been the most generous to me by far. I have gotten 4 credit cards and 3 charge cards with them all with a total of 2 HP. They do like to see spend with PIF with my experience. Dont forget your 3X in 61 days and then every 6 months there after per ACCOUNT not card.
