AMEX Everyday

I've been crunching the numbers trying to justify my PRG vs. the Everyday cards. Most of my spend is groceries with some restaurants mixed in. What with it being the Discover quarter for restaurants, having my 5% USAA for gas and having a USBank Cash + with 5% for fast food (I'm a sucker for chicken sammiches), I've started questioning the $195 annual fee for the PRG (I have the platinum, too, and deeply resent the restrictions on the airline credits). I was leaning toward the EDP but got a targeted offer this afternoon for the Everyday 25k points/2k spend/15 month 0% APR. Approved for $8,000. I think I'll cancel the PRG when the annual fee comes around and upgrade to EDP next year. EX 691, utilization 5%, AAoA 2.2 years.

Thanks for sharing your thinking on how you came to the conclusion of getting rid of PRG. It's something I've been going back and forth with myself.

Why on Earth didn't you just upgrade the PRG to the Platinum? I don't understand having both and paying $745 in annual fees.

I got my PRG and Platinum at the same time...before I had any 5% cb cards. I was fully vested in MR vs. cash back at the time and the fees made more sense. That's why I didn't upgrade my PRG.

Um, AJC...Would you please call Disco and ask for your AJC Special back? They gave it to me by mistake. My Amex approval made me bold and I requested a CLI.

I got the Plat and PRG at the same time. I haven't paid an annual fee for the PRG. Good SUB and free for a year. Who wouldn't take them up on that. I paid for the Plat by not buying a new Apple watch this year. It's all a matter of perspective...

Congrats on the approval. I agree with cancelling the PRG. If you have the Platinum, I feel like the PRG is redundant. If anything, I would cancel the Platinum and keep the PRG since the lower AF but if you travel alot, the Platinum is better.

I travel a lot. After 12 years of travelling at government expense, I prefer to travel comfortably. I am still rather surprised at the benefits I get from the Platinum vs. PRG. FHR is a resource that just doesnt' get enough respect, I've become accustomed to airport lounges, and 5x on airfare is hard to beat. It has paid for itself many times over in perks I couldn't otherwise afford-even with the PRG.
