Anyone familiar with Wells Fargo prequalified mailers? UPDATE: Approved

Hey my fellow citizens of the myFICO world!!

Just received a prequal'd mailer (attractively packaged almost like a welcome packet) for a WF Propel Amex yesterday. Never had a relationship with them in the past so not really familiar with their marketing styles. Also, WF doesn't seem to be well loved on this side of the credit world so there's not much info on this floating around. Anyways, here's a little background... I app'd for this card over a month ago last July 24, 2018 (ironic that it's the valid date the current APR listed on the letter) and got declined "due to too many opened accounts in the last 24 months". Was at 5/24 back then. I opened 2 accounts in August of 2016 so that puts me at 3/24 currently. The optimist in me thinks that they'll actually approve me this time that's why they waited 'til I'm at 3/24 before mailing me a prequal with a pre-determined APR (not a range) and promo rates. But the pessimist in me still believes that no way in without an existing relationship, i.e., checking account, etc... and that this is just one of their very aggressively incompetent marketing push!!

So watcha think myFICOers? Which side of me should I listen to?

That’s the exact same one I got a couple weeks ago. It went pending but they approved it in 2 hours. I co-signed a car with Wells Fargo for my wife. It’s legit. Got a $6500 SL. They pulled Experian. I’m at 712

Still finishing my course at AmexBL U so no Amex Purple fetish for me yet my friend.

I happen to have one and it's all consuming. Not just with cc's either..

Disco is my hero with my metallic purple card..

On the mailer, they SP you so your score is good for them, it's the inq's & new accounts they may frown upon.

I've been getting these for several WF cards (I do have my checking there) but though my score may be good enough, I know they will raise a stink eye at my other DP's.

I actually do believe that they are less forgiving without an existing relationship and balk on my 3/24 or 2/12 or 1/6 and most definitely my 2 HPs in last 6 months. Not even my EX FICO9 of 784 can appease them. Surely they can come up with 1001 ways (excuses) to deny me. I guess I’m just trying to see the prevalent outcomes of this mailer.

On a lighter note...

I do find purple very sexy or sexy-ish?

On the serious side, your DP's seem within their range of approval for that card..

Mine are FAR worse.

I can totally understand your pessimisme on this. My DPs are somewhat similar to yours as far as denial of the same card, the same reason, just weeks ago.

Seems like WF is casting a wide net to rake in customers from any previous contacts--even denial apps. Couple that with their recent ads on TV trying to rebrand them selves after the debacle of fraud against their customers, I think they are just cycling through marketing databases to prompt more contacts and consumer leads.

All that nonsense said, I still hope you get the card if you apply. During my short time on this board I have learned that things can change in one day--or 47 days.

Lol, JR, nah still only have my Cash Wise. I wasnt eligble for the sub on this card snd my app never went through. I dont like how they operate when you call them. They say they will do something then never do. So a blessing i didn't get another card from them. BUT i never had a relationship when I first got my first credit card so with your stats you should be good to go.

Purple in other things has to be SEXY ANNUAL FEE

Just checked my full EX report and the only pulls I have from them are 7/24/18 HP when they declined me and 7/26/18 SP during recon. So starting to think that this might not be a solid offer after all?

They might be SP'ing you on TU or EQ for marketing. Cap1 pulls me almost 3x monthly, varying CRA by week. I'm assuming one is for existing accounts mgt, one for CC marketing, another for auto or banking offers. But I don't know exactly, just a guess. That said, with good scores like yours, expect lots of eyes are watching.
