I recently got back from a vacation and flew American Airlines as I normally do, and got a brochure for a Barclay Red Aviator card with the 60k bonus miles after first purchase/annual fee.

I would really like the bonus miles, and my wife will probably get the card as well, this will give us enough miles to use for a trip or two to the caribbean next year, or one trip to Europe.

The problem that I am having is I already have the Citi AAdvantage card and would need to change around my card line-up

Currently I have

Chase FU (10k)

Citi AAdvantage (20.5k)

AMEX BCE (39.5k)

Discover IT (19.5k)

Region's Platinum Reward (14.4k)

My thoughts were to get the Aviator card, PC the Citi card to a DC, and then PC my Chase FU to a freedom.

However, the thing stopping me from this, is that I prefer the CITI version of the AA card soley because I like CITI over Barclay, but none of the other Barclay products interest me if I were to keep my current lineup and PC the aviator later..

In addition, As far as redeeming miles, since me and my wife will both get the card and the signup bonus, when we plan a trip next year, will we have to book seperately in order to both utilize our miles? I have never redeemed miles from two different AA accounts to purchase tickets for the same trip.

Getting 60k miles for a single purchase if you fly AA is a no brainer to me and I am not sure why you need to change all your cards to do it. If you prefer Citi, that’s fine, get the Barclays card(s), earn the miles and then sock drawer the card. Nothing to lose.

Yes to use the miles you would have to book 2 separate reward flights with the miles from your and your wife’s account. You can transfer miles to another person but it comes with a transfer fee and sorta defeats the value of the reward. It’s not a big thing to fly together on two separate reservations. Do it all the time.

Thank's for the quick response, I guess I got a little side-tracked in my question, I (we) will be getting the card no matter what. However, I just wasn't sure what to do with my card line-up, I think I will probably SD the card after a few uses. Once the AF comes due again, I could PC it to a no AF Barclay card and SD that one too I suppose?

Just to confirm, they are most likely to pull TU, correct?

I have all my bureau's frozen, so I was planning on temporarily lifting the freeze on TU before apping.

I am not sure why you have to PC it. Just cancel it. You can do that via Secure Message. And yes they pull Trans Union.
