NFCU 91 day secured card into Amex sl 10k

Been reading forum long time though I would post about this since I heard about it from this forum the 91 day navy federal high sl

I have two capital one cards $500 each a credit one card $400
First premier $300

I read this forum and got the $500 secured navy card maxed it out and pif twice the first two months and once the third month.

I was also closing on a house this month on the 25th (I closed ) what’s crazy is my 91day mark for navy was the 26th. So after moving all my stuff in it was 2am and I was kinda scared to apply because I didn’t know if I needed to wait until 8am. I expected it to be denied because I missed paying my capital one card off in full by a day so it reported maxed out all other cards reported $0 I applied on my phone for the Amex rewards cards and BOOM congrats $10000 sl, so I remember everyone saying go try for the CLOC and normally it gets approved I tried online but it made me call in and the rep did the app and it came back denied but I didn’t care I was so happy. Just wanted to let you guys know that this works and I appreciate all the advice

Curious what your current credit scores are, I just joined Navy Federal last week and was going to open a 1000-1500 secured, thought maybe it would graduate "better" with my low 580 fico score.

Current score is 580 I was at 610 last month but the capital one card reporting max out dropped me.

I was just approved for a 1,000 secured with NFCU. Looking forward to getting my card in the mail and starting my journey!

Welcome to the myFICO forum! And from one

veteran to another, Thank You for your service!

My jaw dropped to the floor when I read your initial post.

You started with a $500 nRewards secured card and leveraged

that into a $10,000 More Rewards Amex card. Most Navy Fed

members would have waited until after the nRewards card had

unsecured. But you skipped that step, applied for More Rewards

Amex at 91/3 and got a $10,000 SL. That's seriously awesome!

BTW, the More Rewards Amex card is for Navy Fed members with

"Average to Excellent" credit. Average is 580 - 669, Good ranges from

670-739, Very Good is 740-799 and Excellent is 800 and higher.

In addition, other Navy Fed members with an nRewards card have

reported that it unsecures at month 5 or month 6 with a $2,000 SL.

So when all is said and done, your initial $500 will become $12,000.

That's absolutely fantastic!!!

Congrats again on your new approvals and your new home.

Not only do you now own a piece of Americana, but your new

credit with Navy Fed is off to a flying start. Thanks for sharing!

The one complaint I have is this card locks up every single transaction it seems like. I’ve done a 10 transactions total in 3 days all small except one. And I’ve had to call in for 8 of them. Yesterday at Walmart they couldn’t even get it to unlock I just went ahead and paid debit. But it feels like where ever you earn the most points is when it locks up lol. But navy is saying it’s all from suspicious activity because I applied for the card and a CLOC on same day. But I keep having to re verify. Anyone else same problem?

I've never had this problem with Navy Fed.

But what you can do is call them and say

1) You have the card in your possession,

2) You are the one actually using the card, and

3) Ask them what needs to be done to remove the

suspicious activity flag from your nRewards account.

It shouldn't be that big of a deal. But I do agree that

it's frustrating (and sometimes embarrassing) to have

to use another card b/c the Navy Fed card is locked up.

So just give them a call and see what they say. And if you

wouldn't mind, please check back with us and share what

you learn.
