Discover approval w/ 25 inqs

My bf is rebuilding. He has scores 620/618/608, nothing in collections, but 25 inquiries (due to recent car shopping). He's the authorized user on 2 of my cards (7% util total), and has one $300 target card of his own (open in Dec18). Today on a whim we checked the Discover pre-qualify page. I was so shocked to see he pre-qualified for the Discover It cash back, chrome and secure card. We thought he was far from being approved for a rewards card of any kind or even a non-secured card after a failed app spree attempt last Dec. He selected the chrome card antipicating he will mostly use the card for gas. (I'm now thinking he should've maybe opted for the cash back card? Can we pc it later? He just applied yesterday, think they'll change it if we call today?) We were delighted to see that he was approved and really surprised to see a $1500 limit. I'm excited to watch this card grow!

Congrats to the BF on the approval! You can technically PC it but with Discover, your best bet is to use it for the year and then once the card hits one year, apply for another and then combine both cards (keeping the new one).

I was so happy to read your post. Congratulations to you and your BF. I had the same situation with my partner about 4 1/2 years agao. He too was approved. He had lates, and very little credit, and was AU on my Citi Card. He was sure they didn;t approve, and wahla...$12,000 right out of the gate. Disco gave him regular increases. After two years he could also ask for more and they still approved. Disco really made his FICO go way up. Congratulations!!
