Approved for Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select

Well, I've been rebuilding for about a year. I started off with scores in the 580s across all three bureaus. I could only get approved for a discover it secured and cap one QS1 at 500.

My discover card unsecured at the beginning of April and I told myself once it secured, I'd come out of and try to get some prime cards. The only card that showed interest via prequalify was the Amex Gold Delta at 1k. I took the offer because I do sometimes fly with Delta, at least a couple of times a year, and I wanted to build a relationship with Amex. Still, I really wanted an AAdvantage card because, living in DFW, AA is my preferred airline that I use for most of our travel needs.

I didn't think I'd get approved, so I was hesitant to apply. I've been gardening for a year and have very low inquiries, so tonight I told myself that even though I don't have a prequalification, I'd try for the card. I figured, either way, I'm going into the gardening stage for a while, so why not throw a hail mary?

I applied, waited in anticipation for the decision to come back. It said they'd get back to me in 7-10 days. My heart sink, I knew it was ultimately probably going to be a denial. Still, since it wasn't an outright denial, I called one of the back door numbers listed on the forums and spoke to a lovely agent. She verified my information and pushed the application through. I was approved with a SL of $5600 dollars, which is my highest limit thusfar compared to my 1k Discover It and 1K delta Amex.

I don't know how I got lucky, but the month of April has been very fruitful to me, credit wise. I got my discover unsecured and established relationships with Citi and Amex. Now, it's time to garden.

That CitiCard AAdvantage Platinum Select was one of my first cards with a decent limit! It's an awesome airline card if you fly AA frequently, which living in DFW I'm sure you do! Hopefully you got a good SUB that you can take advantage of. I've had quite a few trips via miles earned on that card over the years.
