Hilton AMEX Approval

I have had my eye on the Hilton Honors AMEX cards for quite some time. Since I am doing a good bit of travel for work this summer and all the conferences I'm attending are at or near Hilton properties, I decided I actually needed (haha) a Hilton Honors AMEX. I logged into my HH account and followed a link from there since the SUB was a bit better than what was showing when I logged into my AMEX account. However, I did check to be sure I was pre-approved via the AMEX website first. I decided to go for the Ascend card, and through the HH link, the SUB is 130,000 with a $2k spend during the first 90 days. I was instantly approved with a $2k starting limit, which isn't great, but I'm sure it'll grow in time.

I knew I'd get a lot of benefit from the card because I almost always stay at Hilton properties, but I didn't really do the math until I got an email today from Hilton Honors to let me know I had been upgraded to gold status by virtue of the new card. I don't usually travel enough to hit gold status, so this is a nice perk. Water bottles and other goodies at check-in, free breakfasts at all properties that don't already include it, 10 free visits to their fancy lounges at certain airports, and some free stay incentives. These perks alone add up to more than the $95 annual fee.

Then I did the math. I stay once per month for 3 nights at a Hampton Inn. Same trip every month. Same hotel. I usually earn just a bit over 3,000 HH points for the stay. However, with gold status and charging the stay on my new HH AMEX, the same stay will net 9,000 points. With the HH summer promotion, which gives double points for each stay (but not for the credit card charges), I'll get 13,800 points for each stay between now and September.

Long story short, if one stays at Hilton hotels regularly, the card seems almost mandatory. It's certainly a no-brainer, and I think it might be most generous rewards setup I have for any card. It's definitely better than the Delta Gold AMEX (my usual daily driver), which I think I'll relegate to the sock drawer except when I'm booking plane tickets and flying.

Congrats! Be sure to add the Hilton multiplier deals to your card. That 9000 points can be even more (up to 18k) depending on the promo.

Based on your stay, I'd also say it was a no-brainer to get the card... Hopefully your Delta card will no longer be relegated to the SD with the upcoming refresh.
