Amex Platinum - Just approved!! 3rd Amex since April.

This is amazing. I just got approved for the Gold a week ago today....Same thing, no SP and no HP. The rep said again just like when I called in for the Gold and was approved last week, it's relationship and income based!!! He said they will be sending the card express mail. I asked him (opening a can of worms because I have no worries) if I could send in POI and he said:

"No, sir. We don't need proof of income from you. We appreciate you being a member of American Express since 2011 and value you. Enjoy your new card sir. Is there anything else I may help you with today?"

WOW, just WOW.

Just added it to my account and to Samsung Pay.

Thank you. I am completely done apping with Amex. There are no other cards I need at this point. I am done apping period, except NFCU in July and than after that, off to the garden I go for a minimum of 1 year. I'm going to enjoy the parks of the cards traveling, dining out etc. and get the most out of them.

Thanks! I definitely will! 50k from Gold and 75K from Plat...not to mention what I have already put on it. I'm going to let them build up and then use it for my normal traveling, etc.

I wasn't going to apply but after talking to two different Amex reps 2 times this afternoon, the darn little devil on my shoulder kept saying DO IT, lol, especially since I was just expecting a SP anyway...which I don't know how they are not even doing SP's, especially when I apply incognito and have to use my full SSN. They must have something that matches your ssn to your current account and base it from there? I don't know, I'm only guessing but it's definitely interesting to see if no SP/HP happens to anyone else. I though it was a fluke but it's been 3 cards with none.

Anyway, I'm glad it's done and over with now. :-)

That's what I mean. I didn't get a SP for the CM, Gold nor the Platinum. 2 different reps have told me it's relationship based. This is now the 3rd time so I would love for someone else to experience this as well. My reports are frozen, I applied for the Gold and Platinum using incognito mode, having to enter my full SSN so I knew it would be SP's but they never happened.

I had to call in right after all 3 times because they all immediately went to 12-24 hours pending and I got the same reason for it. They keep telling me I am not checking the box about being in active duty (brought this up in my Gold approval thread) but I am not seeing that when I apply. I even went back after I got off the phone and checked and I still don't see it. I'm not sure how it would let me apply if I didn't "check" this box. They check the box manually and then it's immediately approved over the phone.

I really wish I knew more about the SP thing but I can't give any more info outside of what they tell me. My score in my account is the same for all 3 apps but I am not sure that really makes a difference at this point, or maybe it is. I'd definitely like to know more specifics about this though.

Congrats man, you’re really lining them up and knocking them down! Awesome card lineup from Amex - I’m trying to catch up! Lol enjoy the Plat and Gold, and Amex seems pretty refreshing in the way they approach customers based on their history with Amex, and basing decisions off of that history.

When that beauty shows up, treat yourself to a nice dinner and the awesome feeling of handing that card over to pay

Thanks! I'm still surprised myself honestly! The history thing definitely has me wondering and I am trying to figure it out.

The post someone made yesterday "AMEX Blue Cash Everyday CL: $500. 718+ score. 130k income. Why??" is another dp that is leading me to believe history is a big factor.

I very much agree based on my profile - my current EX is in my sig, and I was approved for Gold and BCP with that. In March I got HH Ascend with a 646, and last November I got base HH and DG with a 638. Those scores are definitely lower than what is typical for what we see with Amex, and the fact that I got preapproval for BCP, got the card, and then got Gold off a preapproval 4 days later says to me that how we manage our Amex accounts means more to them than just about anything else, and certainly more than scores. The fact that the OP in that thread had a decline with a 718 reinforces the fact that scores are definitely not the be all, end all for Amex.

I also mentioned in my plat approval, I think, that I was no longer preapproved for anything right after approved for the gold last week on 5/21....a few days alter, I ended up being preapproved for everything again and got the Plat yesterday (using incognito) not even logged in to my account. Definitely more to it than scores! Surely, amex is not just saying if this person will pay the AF, we'll give them the card...haha

Same for me - got BCP, preapprovals went away, then came back a few days later and gave me every card they offer, and I took Gold. I can’t justify the AF on the Plat as I don’t travel by air enough, but Gold will work nicely.
