Approval odds

I am really looking to add another card or two to my wallet. My scores haven't really changed much from the ones in my sig. I applied and got approved for the NFCU cashrewards 1/29 and has not reported to all the bureaus yet. I have 4 paid baddies that are all over 3 years old, and not very many inqs on CR, except EQ. I am interested in the CSP, Citi HHonors Reserve, and Discover IT. Which card do I have better odds, and what if any steps should I take?

Discover and maybe chase freedom but don't think csp... Trying pre-qual on all sites though-chase,citi, and discover have one

I think your odds are best with the Discover IT. The CSP and the Citi cards are both prime-of-prime cards that, from what I've read, require at least mid 700s and at least 2-3 years of positive tradeline history with other major banks.

Discover seems more open to thin files. YMMV. Good luck! CSP is on my wish list, but I don't think I'll be ready until March 2016.

I have perfect history since the baddies with auto loans (one with Chase), personal loans, credit cards, and a small line of credit. I am sitting on about 17% utl, and it continues to decrease. I think I might wait a little bit to allow the new account age a little and report to all 3 bureaus. I would really like to at add atleast 2 of the afore mentioned cards to grow my credit profile and then educate myself on gardening.

That sounds like a good plan. Let the new accounts to report at least 3-6months, get your overal util down to 1~9%, then apply for the cards you want. Your scores should significantly change within those months. Best of luck.

Even with those scores it's hard to get an Discover Card and if so, it will be a toy limit. it's best to give it some more time before applying. And how long ago did you pay off the baddies? If you pay them off recently, you may have resetted the age clock for the baddie (one major mistake I done)

Most were paid off in 2010 with exception of a loan I paid off 12/13. I paid the most recent to NCO Financial and after GW they deleted the TL and the OC updated as paid but did not restart the clock.

Discover can be very iffy about any negatives. I was denied various times with 1 paid negative and not approved until my EQ was 100% clean. How old are your accounts? Have you considered Barclays?

+1 I think you may have a decent shot with Barclays. Look at their Rewards card (for good credit). Good luck!

Update. So the new NCFU card is now reporting to all bureaus and my scores have increase 49-59 points, on USAA's credit monitoring service. I am really fighting the temptations to apply, almost pulled the trigger last night. I am also considering the Citi AAdvantage card, any input?

So I decided to go ahead and do a mini spree. Here are my results:

Citi AAdvantage Gold - Denied/Pending Recon

Chase Sapphire - Approved on recon CL 5K

Discover It - Denied (tried recon no luck..told them to keep their card)

Barclays Arrival - Approved on recon CL 2.5K

NFCU NavCheck CLI - Approved for 15k

I am satisfied with 3 out of 5, but seriously hope Citi comes through. Any pointers on Citi recon??

Congrats on your recent card spree!!! I was skeptic about the Discover app but somerone did suggest the Barclays Card and I see you got it thru recon. And CIti is very hard to recon.

Congrats, You ended up with some decent cards. Like efranklin said, Citi recon is difficult. You could also try to plead your case to Citi EO, there's a few success stories going that route.
