So apparently CreditOne has an Amex version. I was scrolling through the site looking at the fees/different cards then noticed the Amex version. When I got to the bottom of the information section there was an option to see if my mom would be prequalified for it. So I put in her information she was preapproved! I pushed the app through and she was instantly approved with an SL of $500. It said they would let her know when the card is being shipped out.

Her score via their internal Experian score is 674.
She is super happy and for now this card will do.

As someon who has a CreditOne, and the only reason I haven't cancelled it yet is because they credited me $15 and cancelled the monthly AF for x months. I plan to close it as soon as i get my next two goal cards in Q1 2020.

I guess i just don't understand why anyone would apply for this card, let alone someone with a 674. There are much better cards with better benefits, and no AF, available to someone with that score.

Credit one uses an old scoring model. Maybe bank card 2 or something like that. She should find out her Fico 8s and check prequalified offers for Discover or Amex themselves if her 8s are in that range.

My mother has an experian score of 596 not 674. The 674 was from a CreditOne internal score. I have been rebuilding for years and have done enough research to know that if her scores were that higher, what products would have been a better option. Her scores are low and this is a great start for her.

But to echo the above’s posts, have you tried Amex or Disco pre-quals? 674 EX could’ve easily gotten her a $1K “real” Amex with no AF.
I would try it then if approved close the Credit One right away!

OP, there is nothing wrong with your mom getting a Credit One CC. They were the first creditor to give me credit (1k limit) post a chapter 7 bankruptcy (45k). They helped me begin my recovery from BK. If I had to do it all over again, I wound have gone the secured credit card route instead (avoids subrime cc’s with AF’s). I didn’t want to save the money, and I regret it. Some people don’t have the money to save for a deposit for a secured credit card, so Credit One is a good option if your trying to rebuild your credit just PIF every month since their interest rates are terrible. I wish your mom luck.

Yes, Credit One is one of my oldest cards.

I would can them but they have raised my limit from 300.00 to 1500.00 in 18months.

I have a preapproved offer for their AMEX, but I do not know how it really helps me.

Further, I am not sure how it would play to my "goal" card of AMEX Platinum.

I am in the garden until April '20, but it is soooooo tempting....
