Nordstrom "Upgrade"

I've had a Norstrom store card for a little over 3 years and raised it from $1000 to $5000 since then, including from $3100 to $5000 last week. I figured at 5k they would finally allow me to upgrade to a Visa, so I went into the store like they say you have to, for an upgrade. I applied via the register and the associate had to call in since I already have an account. Now this is where it gets strange... the phone rep said that I had to fill out a paper app ( which nobody in the store could find ) and then have the associate call back and read back the paper app over the phone. I was approved but..

1) for a baby limit of $1000

2) I had to choose the store card or the Visa

3) had a hp alert from Exp (642 at the time)

I chose the Visa since it was already a hit but then they refused to move my credit limit over and also shut me down on a CLI. I don't really believe in no ( 90% of the times its laziness or incompetence ), so I called back 3 more times and finally got a rep who told me that they should've given me the option to move my credit line over when I closed my account and promptly did so.

Long story short, I "upgraded" to the Visa and my 5k cl!

Congrats on your approval! Seems the salesperson apped you a new card vs simply upgrading your current one. Good job on getting them to consolidate the trade lines.

FYI for anyone reading this for DP....it's not necessary to go to the store to upgrade from store card to Visa. Many simply call in, myself included. Going to the store will often result in a new app, as it did with op.

Yeah the CLIs have either been soft pulls or automatic for me...automatic usually around the holidays

Yeah, I should've gone to another store once I realized the nobody in the store had no clue what I was talking about. It was a high-end mall, so they prob don't have these common folk issues in there ever haha

I agree that they have a strange process. I just went thru the same process with me last month. When you already have a retail card it's really hard to also add a visa.

Not sure the timeframe of when you did your upgrade but on every 10 phones call I made to them last month all agents indicated I had to go to the store to do a new application similar to OP. Perhaps this is their new process.

I tried so many times to simply upgrade, via phone, but no go!! If you have a secret tip please let me know.

I am unsure about the store card but you can call in and aski if you are eligible and if so they will give it to you in a matter of seconds.

I got my Nordstrom VISA card last week. I had to go into the store to upgrade to the VISA and the sales clerk was getting my stuff all mixed up. They approved me for the $5000 and move the cost from my retail account to the VISA and it left my retail account with a $3,000 limit. The $687 is over the credit limit so I had to paid $700 from my checking account to get it under the limit. As, I was finish with everything at the store I when home and call Nordstrom and ask them to please increase my retail limit to a manageable limit becasue I did not want to have an over the credit limit on my CR. Now I have two accounts for $5000 each and my retail limit was $8,000, so I got an increase of $2000.

^^This. In November 2015, I called in to ask about an upgrade and was given a CLI from $500 to $6000 and upgraded to the Visa

that is stupidity, all that trouble for? who concedes a hard pull for an account they already hold, just for the intention of getting a Visa logo. I dont get it and i would never be a party to this.
