I log into today to check his accounts. I see he has a message stating he got an auto increase on his core visa 3k😊 I thought well his cash rewards had hit 6 months , so why not instant approval for 5K increase 😀

The exact same thing happened with my Core Visa today... $12.5K -> 15.5K.

PNC definitely seems to favor applicants with existing relationships. A few weeks ago, they approved me for a $25K cash rewards card in spite of a ton of new approvals and INQs in the past 12 months. But I had a 7+ year banking relationship with them, and I think that's why they gave me such a generous limit, let alone approval in the first place.
