CapOne Walmart MC after Amex BCP: worth applying?

Hello, dear myFico community members,

Happy to finally join the forum - long time reading only. I'm new to this credit cards game, so I'd really appreciate your advice.

So now I'd like to apply for Walmart MC from CapOne, but not sure how to proceed to minimize risks of denial.

Some background first: I got my first credit card from Chase (Freedom Student) with 1000$ SL in September, and recently they increased my CL to 1500$. When that happened, I decided to apply for the Amex BCP. After being pre-qualified (for Amex Everyday and Amex green, actually, but it worked for BCP as well) I was approved (this April) for whopping 5000$ SL. Beginner's luck, I suppose.

Since I occasionally order at walmart.com and gonna order some stuff soon, I think this Walmart CapOne card really suits me well. In your opinion, what's the best strategy now? Should I apply right away or keep waiting for some time before applying again?

Some stats: EX 730 (after HP) TU 728 EQ 742, never late.

I checked CapOne pre-qual offers, but they offered me only Platinum and Q1 with 39$ AF. That's somewhat disappointing, I must admit. It makes me nervous because looks like CapOne loves triple HP.

So would you apply for this card in my situation? Or maybe better consider another similar card?

Go for it 😎 if your utilization is low.

Walmart MC use to be easy to get back with Sync. about 680ish so I don't think they are requiring excellent credit now!

The prequal will only return results for the secured, Platinum, and Quicksilver now. Your scores are good enough to get the MasterCard.

Today I took your advice and hit the button. Yes, I was approved for the Walmart MC (yay!), but only for 300$ SL and 26.99% APR (meh). They required additional verification first (DL), however, I wasn't able to upload it properly and then the verification window disappeared. One minute later I got a message of approval.

Looks like I'm not creditworthy enough for them, unlike for Amex. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship with CapOne, I suppose (no).

But it's still good to be approved.

Guess I'm in the garden for some time now. Probably for a year.

Verifying your info could have lowerd your APR maybe! But mine is 22.9 🙄

No worries on your SL, show usage and pay it for 6 months you'll have big CLI

Yeah, maybe... I was trying to change privacy settings on my phone to take the picture but suddenly session timed out. There was nothing I could do.

Well, if I PIF every month this huge APR isn't a big deal, right? That APR somewhat spoiled my first impression of CapOne. I'm kinda curious about changing APR. Is it even possible?

Regarding SL, it's not hard to max it out, sure.

Unfortunately cap1 is not known for APR reduction 🙄 You can call them and ask for recon, maybe...

But there is no point carrying a balance in store card! APR is higher than avg and you'll negate your reward%

I see... Well, to me it looks like CapOne's APRs are generally higher than average. Whatever, it is what it is.

But you're right anyway, there's simply no point carrying a balance on this particular card.
