Bizzare Discover account combo denial BUT got cli's...

I have 2 Discover IT cards...1 at $28K & the 2nd at $7500.

Called to combine them, rep stated accounts 'qualified for consideration' for combonation. Rep stated both accounts needed to have cli offers on the table, which they did, both accounts needed to be over 1 years old, which they did, & needed to verify both cards had the same name, etc, they did. He said he could go ahead & push the request through to an account supervisor.

I agreed, he put me on hold, he came back & said the combonation was not possible at this time. I asked if there was a recon possible or if it was just a computer based decision. He actually was super helpful & passed me to a account supervisor & she said the combonation was declined due to 'lack of use of current existing credit lines'.

I thanked her for her time & she said that with more consistent use over the next few months I 'should' be in a better position to try again.

After the convo, I went online & clicked the cli button on both accounts...got a total 8k cli.

Discover is a weird friggin cookie. You cannot have 1 card with $35,500 but we'll give you $8k more over 2 cards.

Definetly weird. But not using either doesnt give them much incentive. Incredible you got 8k in todays environment on non usage. This is Disco

@Physh1 Super Congrats on your Discover 8k CLI!!!

"Weird" is the right word. Lady Disco wouldn't let you combine limits

due to lack of use, yet She turned around and gave you a collective 8k

increase on both cards??? Oh well. It's better than no increase at all.

Congrats on the CLIs @Physh1 ! And yes, discover can be kind of wonky at times, but I think most who stick around with them can attest to the fact that at some point they will honor our credit-snob demands lol You got this!
