Help me prepare to app Chase Freedom & CSP w old baddies

I'm creeping towards 700s across the board and have had no issues since I got 2/3 baddies (depending on CR) back in 2009. I just got added as an AU on a Chase checking acct (joint with my fiance, thats been open over a year). I have 1 inq per report. 1 new card since 2009 (Citi AA WMC w 5k limit from last month). I PIF and before statement cut date.

My future wife and I are taking our honeymoon in November, and my ultimate goal is to have BOTH cards to maximize 5x bonus and No Foreign Exchange fees. I think I should be ok for the Freedom (hoping baddies are old enough), but I intend to app for both on the same day. I want to leave enough time in case I am denied for CSP and then I can re-app in 91 days.

Should I wait to app? Maybe allow my score to climb a little bit after Citi starts reporting? I guess this would allow my Checking account to show as active (does this even matter, or am I good now that I am an AU already).

Have you tried the pre qualify link on Chase's website? I would start there. If you don't get any prequalified offers, you still may get approved.

I have and I get the pre-qual for Slate (not interested) and Freedom. Now that I have a Chase Checking acct, will that help me with the CSP??

I feel fairly good about my chances with the Freedom (even with my old baddies). It's the CSP that I am really unsure about...

I'd app for the Freedom, start building up your history with them and your internal score, and then perhaps like me one day you'll walk into a chase branch and the teller you're preapproved and you walk out with a 7k CL CSP after having the Freedom for 3 months...plus the freedom is a great combo with CSP/Chase checking. YMMV

I keep getting bombarded with Chase pre-approval mail. Yesterday I went into a branch and spoke with a banker. I asked him what all the system showed on my account. He turned the screen around and it had me pre-approved for 5 different cards, two of which I have not received offers.

I suggest going into a branch and seeing what you may be pre-qualified for. It may surprise you.

Best advice is to apply for freedom. Wait for 2-3 months, then go for CSP. Your chances of approval (atleast on recon) would be good then.

If I app the freedom and the CSP in the same day will that count as 1 HP? I have seen conflicting info on this... Also, what's the link to see which CR Chase usually pulls?

Dunno about the 2 app/1HP thing. But chase pulled EX and TU for me for each approval. I'm in MI

I opened the Slate and after 2-3 months tried for the CSP and was denied because of to many new accounts. At the time, I had 3 old baddies, but recon said that they didn't matter since they were from 2008. They said wait about a year and reapply after I have history with new accounts including Slate. This was in December 2013 when I apped for the CSP. I got the Slate in October 2013. They said that I had just got the Slate with $2,500 limit and the CSP started out with $5,000 limit and my accounts were just to new for that. Well In January 2014, I asked for a cli on the Slate to $5,000. Denied, but approved on recon.

I did Hyatt and CSP and it was 1HP. Same thing happened when I went for Freedom and Amazon Visa. I think it's just luck?

Have you thought about the Chase Sapphire instead of the Chase Sapphire Preferred. I'm not a credit guru or anything fancy and maybe there is something about the CSP I don't know but I am very content having the Chase Sapphire @ 5K a siggy card and no annual fee. But then the CSP I understand is metal with and AF after 1 year and 2X travel points. I just don't know why more folks don't go for the Chase Sapphire unless you're going after the 2X Travel Points, the other few advantages to me are not worth the AF of $95.

I travel a lot therefore the 2x travel and the no foreign exchange fees are huge for me...

It's all about the travel. Not only do you get the 2x travel (or 3x if you book in the UR mall), but you also get 20% off when you book with points...if you end up using the Freedom's categories heavily, it's basically a 6.25% CB on flights you book with points. For me, it's extremely valuable as my $560 round trip to Austin 2x a year and 400 round trip to Fort Lauderdale once a year become a whole lot cheaper..

Hahaha. Half of that I get reimbursed by family members because I go see them. I have sporadic other trips coming up to various graduate programs - yes, it's nice to travel. But wow, it really does begin to add up. If it wasn't for all of these interviews for grad schools and touring campuses and seeing the research each college is interesting, I'd probably only come out even at best with the AF on the CSP. But that being said, 1) it's extremely convienent to use just the CSP for travelling and leave the other cards (minus my CU cc for emergencies) at home, so in case I lose them all , and 2 with this travel I do come out slightly ahead than just a 1% card...I can't wait to get my flight to Europe for freeee

Thank you. Your post convinced me to go ahead and app for the Southwest Airlines credit card from Chase. I've only had my Chase Slate since October 2013 which started with $2,500 and increased to $5,000 in January 2014 via an HP. Well today, Chase approved me $5,000 right out the gate on the Southwest card without any fanfare. Strangely though this time, I had to go through a fraud prevention verification (an extra step for approval). They had to verify things on my CR. I don't have a freeze or anything, but whatever. I was approved. My EQ credit monitoring has my EQ score at 649 today, but I was just approved for a auto loan and personal loan by USAA on 2/1/14 and 3/4/14 respectively. The approval on 3/4/14 had my EQ Fico at 681. I say go for it.

I couldn't hold off the itch this morning! So.... I apped the Freedom and was instantly approved for 4k!!! My first Chase card

I'm wondering if I should've just gone for the CSP first! Now do I wait for 3+ months before apping for the CSP (what I ultimately want) or risk the rejection and try to app now??

BTW they pulled TU and EX
