Very strange Amex auto CLI

No clue when it happened, it was $17,100.00 at approval, suffered self-requested CLD to $17,000.00 (math be easier that way).

I noticed several days ago that it was showing $20,000.00 for the limit, I thought that was nice, but not necessary, limit on it is adequate for my needs

Logged in to check balance, and now it's $25,000.00

I'm really tempted to chat them and ask them what on Earth happened this last week, and if it's some sort of glitch.

I did not ask for CLI since it was opened in January.

In case it's not a glitch, EX is back to 765, no new accounts since this one was opened.

It's gotten decent spent on race to $30,000.00

I dunno. Maybe next time I check, limit will be $500.00

Best guess is the increase was an auto CLI where the temp approval was $20k til it was finalized for the eventual $25k but that's just what I think. It's not unheard of to get unprompted increases especially with the type of spend you've put on your Reserve card but I never heard of one where it was in "stages" likes yours was

I have no plans. Made one once just to see how it looks, then paid before statement.

Didn't ask yet, I'm debating if I should or leave it alone.

Before I learned about asking for CLIs, my AMEX only received auto CLIs. I went from $1000 to $23000 on my Blue card just on auto CLIs.

And just to add for DPs, I always carried a high balance paying only the min, and I got the auto CLIs when I made big payments. Income was always stated around $30000. They had no good reason to increase my credit limit, but they did 🤷🏽

It's totally crazy. I've never seen or heard of Two Part CLI 🤷‍♀️

I saw take the cli and run. I still have a $25,300 credit line and they will not budge, even when I consolidated lines and freed up credit so they could. pfft

Congrats! You're the exception to the rule here. Personally, I got my Amex limits the old fashioned way...by repeatedly hitting the CLI button every 6 months. Although, I think the Aspire is gonna get hella spend now that CSR groceries are gone and I can get lifetime Hilton base points through Dec 31.

I don't think I'd be an exception if Amex had a chance to do auto CLIs, which is really hard considering people mark 61, 181 etc on their calendars.

I'd bet 7kg of wagyu beef that this is not unusual occurence in real world.

Don't look a gift CLI in the mouth!

Maybe THAT is the real gardening to be done... by CLD'ing the card, you treated it like a real garden. Prune off the old dead branches/flowers so it can grow back stronger and bigger than before!!

I might have to sacrifice a 100 or so on a few cards and test this theory!
