Surprise approvals

first I want to thank every one on here for all the great information. I've been a long time lurker and it has helped my tremendously. For the past 3 years I have had 2 capital 1 card with $500 and $1000 cl And a us bank with a $5000 cl. all have been maxed out until I was able to pif both cap 1 in December and finally pif the us bank last month. Even though I have a long history with cap 1 they are being ridiculous about cli and the us bank has a 29.99% rate so I decided its time to replace them. I was a little nervous as we bought my wife a new car in January and I refinanced my jeep at the same time with a cu so I figured I had to many recent inquires. after reading all the information here I decided I wanted a discover it card. I applied in early February and was approved for $2500, not great but I'll take it. After going round and round with cap 1 I have decided to close those accounts and was looking for something to replace them. Yesterday I got a pre-approval in the mail for a citi thank you preferred and figured I'd give it a try. Instant approval for $3000 with 12 months no intrest then a 12.99% rate!!! Very excited and feeling good. It's all I can do to not app for another card but I think I need to garden for a while.

Congrats on your approvals for Discover and Citi and your CLs are not bad. As to US Bank, since it is paid off how about looking at a p/c to say Cash+ or Flex Perks Travel Cards? You already have the CL and maybe enough time to qualify... might want to talk with them about your APR too ... like many banks you never know until you try ... "nothing ventured nothing gained" ... a phone call (might not work but how do you know until you tried?).

The only dumb questions are the ones not asked. In the credit forum at the top of the page is a link to helpful threads. In there Is a guide to common abbreviations. I hope this helps.

I just called us bank. My card through them is a Harley Davidson visa and apparently they will not p/c from a Harley card to another type card...oh well

fasttalkintn - hey... you gave it a shot. Often times cards issued with Partners or Affinity Cards are restricted from p/c. Not all but some. Great you called!

Try the EO with Cap-1, if they wont help you then I say jettison them when the AF comes up for renewal. Good luck
