Discover 4K CLI w/ SP (Near-Prime Version!)

I was fully prepared to take a HP on TU for a CLI today, so I called up CSR to take request, then said they would need more info. At this point thought HP would take place. As it turns out, I was transfered to a credit analyst who then offered me several options before I needed to agree to a HP:

Option 1: Increase to 7,500 with HP

Option 2: Increase to 6,500 with SP

Another option: Take HP and TRY to put in request for add'l increase of my choice (still 1 HP but seemed iffy)

Guess which option I took?

Credit analyst saw and was working with the same TU FICO that showed up on my most recent statement, 782.

Despite this, I DO have the near-prime version since when I applied a year ago my EX FICO was 670. Moral of the story, if your scores get dramatically better AFTER approval, you may not need take a HP to get sizeable limits. Patience seems to pay off with Discover.

I'm thinking you took the 6.5K and ran with it.

This same thing just happen to me. My scores are much better now than when I first got the card and I had a couple options when I called, too. And if my guess is correct, I did the same thing. Took the SP increase and ran. Yee hawww

I wonder if scores being above a certain number elicit more 'options'. Don't know for sure.

TU is in the 740's and I'm convinced that's what they use for CLI's or at least in my case. They seem to pull EQ most for approvals and use TU for CLI's based on my SP's.

I don't know about you but I can't wait to pass the next hurdle and hit 10k'ish with them. It'll certainly take a long time but I like the card and LOVE the customer service. I'm in with them for the long haul.

Great, thanks. yeah, I saw that after I posted so didn't think a certain score was as critical.

Yes, I'm with you on passing the 10K hurdle but I'll be very content once I reach 15K. I'm pretty optimistic I can get to 15K within a year, I would just run 5-10K through in a week then pay it off. I feel like Discover has treated me relatively well for only being a cardmember 353 days.

The hardest thing now will be getting re-pricing done with a sky-high APR on this card. It'll probably take at least a few more years to get my APR knocked down from 22.99% to 9.99%.

CONGRATS!!! Thanks for the info. I think that will help me soon enough. I had a low initial CL and will have had the card for a year this month. They auto bumped me once for a mere 400, but this summer I am expecting my scores to jump big. I will call them when they do now that I read your post.
