Amex Plat w 100,000 Bonus Approval

Got approved for Amex Plat yesterday. I had seen the 100,000 (as opposed to 75k) offer pop up on my phone but navigated away from the page. Tried on a few different devices and eventually got it on my older laptop.

Only previous Amex history was Platinum AU (standard gold card) opened in 2018. Account holder had/has perfect payment history. I also had a Corp Card, but I heavily doubt that plays into any of their considerations. Both Amex's site and the Points Guy CardMatch put me at prequalified, but Credit Karma had me at poor approval odds.

EQ was pulled at 708. TU was 714. I will note that these scores were superficially (?) tanked due to my university opening one of my subsidized loans (considerably later than the other) in two seperate installements this semester rather than one. Before that (aprox. 2 months ago) TU was 748 and EQ was 746.

Most recent approval was the new Chase Freedom Flex on Oct. 1st 2020. This is my first travel focused card and annual fee card as I'll be moving out of the country next year and expect travel expenses there and a bit of travel (vaccine gods allowing) to see family before I leave the states. Others are (in order of approval) Apple Barclays Visa, Discover StudentIT Mastercard, Citi BestBuy Visa, Chase Prime Visa, Apple Goldman Sachs Mastercard, and Chase Freedom Flex Mastercard. Lots of easy approvals to establish history young and not worry about them (edit: the last is not neccessarily an easy approval, as to not slight those waiting on their 24 months to be up ).

I hear you Jetiquette. At 60K pts, it doesn't really move the needle. At 75K it gets my attention. At 100K, how can you not apply especially when the $5K spend is spread out to 6 months vs 3months.

It actually didn't take too long (~45 min - 1 hour) to crop up again after trying a few different browsers and devices, but I was angry enough at myself for losing it the first time to not stop looking 😅

Grats to you, though! I've definitely been trying to convince myself to get the platinum AU for years for lounge access while traveling alone, but the 100k and recent changes in circumstance pushed me over the "f*ck it" line. The 100k is a good $4000 flight on some partner airlines, can't complain at the value at least for the year!

I think I must have been extra lucky yesterday? It first popped up on my phone and I somehow lost the tab and then spent about an hour browser and device shuffling until it finally jumped back in! I'd definitely suggest commandeering your family's devices to quickly check once in a while if you can!
