NFCU Flagship CLI... I Guess

Hi again!

So I've had my Flagship card with NFCU for a year now and just finished paying off a massive pile of CC debt - from 99% overall utilization down to about 10%. Both of my NFCU cards got paid off and, when everything got reported to the big 3, I decided to try for my first CLI with the Flagship card! Everyone's being hit with 10k limits here, 25k limits there.

I aimed for $10k, hit the button and boom, 24 hour message. I logged into the app the next morning to see a $400 CLI - $5500 --> $5900

Scores in the 670s, income of $150k, 10% utilization total with an active auto loan, primary checking (regular deposits) and savings accounts with NFCU. Better luck next time, I guess?

Well congratulations on getting rid of a lot for debt your score will benefit heavily! As for the CLI ... I'm not really sure what to say.. maybe try again in 6 months and update the outcome.

From what I've gathered from the massive NFCU forum thread -- $4K is their current max CLI due to Covid (CLIs, not new card SLs). So don't take it personally -- hopefully things return to normal in another 6 months when you're ready to try again. Anyway - -congrats on the CLI and your successful debt paydown.

EDIT: My badd... i totally misread your post and thought you received a $4K cli (not $400). That's underwhelming and I understand your frustration and disappointment. Sorry - fingers crossed your next request will yield much more favorable results.

Maybe they did not have your current paydown reflected yet? I am not certain how often they SP or if they do a fresh SP when you request a CLI, but maybe that's why it was on the low end? Is your high 600s score after paydown?

My guess is that your score is the constraint for greater CLI growth at this time.

You mentioned that you paid down maxed out utilization to 10%, which on most profiles can be good for a solid 60-75 points. The 670 score you referenced, is that including the points gained from the massive utilization drop, or has that score not yet updated to reflect your paydown?

Hi all,

I should have clarified - the 670 is reflecting paid off accounts. I waited until all accounts reported their updated balances before requesting a CLI. I do have their AMEX card and I am preapproved for the Cash Rewards card, I'm tempted to apply and see if I might get lucky with a large SL there...
