Hello everyone, I would like to share info for my recent approval with Navy Federal...

First off I will start by saying God is so good! I've burned Navy Fed over 3 times with charge off's that I've later paid in full. I even disputed the info on my credit reports and got them completely removed from my equifax. But since 2/2020 I started working on my credit and made changes for the better to start taking my credit journey serious. So on 1/02/21 I went online NFCU and was pre-approved for several cards and applied for the More Rewards American Express and they hit me with a message to wait 24-48 hrs for a decision and I was denied the next day via email. Per the advice from others on this forum, I decided to send a message to Navy Federal asking for reconsideration because I have since worked on my credit and I'm more responsible now. On 1/04/21 I got an email around 9pm with an approval and I was SHOCKED! To God be the glory!

Which credit card? Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card.
- Starting credit limit: $23,000
- APR: 9.65%
What CRs were pulled? TransUnion (puts me at 2 hard inquiries in the past 2-years for this report)
My FICO score: 685 Fico 8 /TransUnion as of 1/01/2021
Why this card?:
- Cashback rewards (per NFCU website: "3X points at supermarkets; 3X points on gas and transit; 3X points at restaurants; 1X points on everything else")
- Sign up bonus (per NFCU website: "25,000 bonus points (a $250 value) when you spend $3,000 within 90 days of account opening")
My relationship with NFCU... Member since 2014. I got a $1000 secured card with them 1/2014 to develop a relationship and a $500 secured loan. I paid the secured loan and defaulted on the credit card (never graduated) was charged off 12/2016. I paid the credit card charge off Nov 2017 and got a new secured credit card for $500 12/2017. I did not keep up with this card either and it defaulted and closed 1/2020. I've never kept more than $100 in my checking or savings account with NFCU. I applied for a business checking account April 2020 and they denied me because of too many closed accounts. 😐
My credit profile:
- Total revolving credit before this card: $13,000 (only 1 cc - Discover $3000, and 2 store cards My Jewelers $5000 and New Coast Direct $5000)
- Utilization: <7% (balance on cc $32 and $857 on store cards)
- Oldest account: 16 yrs 6 mo
- Average age of open accounts: 5 yrs 9 mo
- Baddies: No collections, 3 paid charge offs, 5 accounts ever late (at least 1 yr old)
- Income: $75k
