Approvals and CLI's / Chase, Penfed, BCU

Hello,

A few days ago I shared an approval for the Choice Rewards card from First Tech, and I also recently decided to trade-in my car for an SUV so my credit has taken a few hits the last couple of days. I thought I might as well take all the hits now, and then go back to the garden for the next 12 months.

Results are in!

1. Chase Freedom Flex:

Applied January 1. App went to review, received an email stating I'd get a decision in 30 days. Robolady said I'd get results in 2 weeks over the phone. They pulled both Experian at 701 and TransUnion at 714 under FICO score 8.
Received an approval email on January 4! $1,600 SL, not high but I won't complain, I am happy to be in!

2. BCU (Baxter CU) Cash Rewards - CLI Request:

The original Limit was $500 when I opened it back in 2016, had it for 3 years then increased to $3,500 in 2019. Requested another increase yesterday and was approved for $10,000! You can ask for a specific amount and they either approve or do a counter offer. They always use TransUnion (in my case).

3. PenFed Power Cash Rewards:

So in my hunt for a new car loan, I was already working with PenFed on a pre-approval (ended up using a different bank) but since I had already had a hard pull I decided to try and apply for the card. I read they usually use the same hard pull if it's been less than 30 days. I applied last night, the application went to review. I did not get another inquiry when I applied for the card, but it seems like the person who manually reviewed it did do an additional hard pull so watch out for that. Anyway, today I received an approval email. $3,500 SL with a 709 Equifax score (FICO 9). They did not ask for POI.

As a side note, I was also able to trade my 2020 Toyota Corolla L for a 2021 Grand Cherokee with all the bells and whitles. I won't include details on the car loan approval since it's a local bank (I'm in PR), but I am really happy about it. Now, off to the garden I go!

Gladly no, I'd rather leave the car than have a loan with BPPR. Lol It was FirstBank PR. I am not exactly a fan of FB, but they seem to like me. My first car loan when my credit wasn't great was approved by them, I refinanced it with BCU, and now I'm back with them.

Lol, yeah my Dad has his car with them and my car was with them. I actually got approved for a cc with them last month but never took in my poi. I find their online clunky and never had account with them but maybe ill try again later. They offer a nice 15 month bt offer.

How is BCU for you and did you have difficulty joining? Thanks

Yes, online banking isn't great and when you've used big banks or credit unions from the mainland that have so much technology, it makes local banks feel like were in the stone age. You can barely do anything online and have to visit the branch for the simplest thing.

I've been banking with BCU for 5 years and have never set foot in one of their branches, anything you can't do online with a click (which are usually things you rarely need) will either take a secure message or a short call. Customer service is also great. I originally applied through a qualifying employer so I didn't have any trouble. Joined online, received my member number and online access in seconds. I was also approved for a credit card and loan that same day, although I can't remeber if I applied during account opening or later. I honestly can't say enough good things about Baxter CU. I've convinced coworkers to join and they're all very happy to have switched.

Thats awesome. You hit the nail on the head as once you get how state side banks are, it makes working with local banks not that great. I 🔥 BP over 10 years ago and they dont forgive anyone. Heck applying with FB they wanted all my poi after calling both employers plus first born lol. I recently got approved for a cc from up there and after 1 phone call for fraud protection , uploaded dl and within 30 minutes approved , no poi. Wish ya best if luck on your credit journey

I remembered this post today when someone from First Bank called me to ask me if I wanted to accept a Beyond Platinum MC for $7,500. Apparently, they approved me for the card using the car loan application, so they had everything they needed. Just had to accept.

Starting to like them a bit more.
