Discover Secured Graduation and CLI!!!!!

Woke up this morning, two business days after my 7th statement cut, to find my Discover IT had been increased from $200 to $1,000. As many others have reported similarly, I didn't receive the email yet, just logged into the app on my phone and noticed it there.

Some DPs: Always either PIF or reported a balance less than $10 then PIF immediately after. I ran about $400-$500 through this card every month despite my $200 limit, but I would just pay it down every week or two. No late payments. No returned payments or charging over the limit (this almost happened on my last statement because Christmas shopping and I forgot about a recurring bill, fortunately for me it just declined the transaction and instead of charging the $5 it would've been over limit, I just put it on another card). I did open one new account in October with Capital One, was worried this would delay my graduation but clearly that wasn't the case.

Most people seem to get $1800 or $2000 as their first bump, I'm guessing mine is only $1000 because my last derog was still unpaid when my disco scorecard updated on the 28th, I'll give it a bit and ask for a CLI once that updates on their end. What a great start to the new year!

congratulations 🎉. I've noticed for the past 2 weeks that ppl that have graduated have only gotten a limit increase to $1,000. I'm in a couple of fb groups and I've noticed it so I'm not sure if this is gonna be the new amount for 2021.

@Vector3D Congrats on the graduation and CLI! I hope you already pc to the Discover It 5% rotating categories (you can do it after your first billing cycle with the secured card).

Btw, have you thought about calling in to request an additional credit limit increase? I've heard that sometimes Discover allows a double dip. I know they have a rule they started last year regarding cli within the first year of account opening.

I have not PCed it yet, it's a weird situation but I thought I applied for the student version originally, but I never found out if I actually got the student version or not. So far it just says Discover IT on my online profile, but if I can get the 5% that would be awesome. How do I go about doing the PC? I think I've heard that it's something I can do online without even talking to a rep on the phone, right?

I've said it before and I will say it again...There's nothing better than getting a Surprise Cli (except that first initial...CONGRATS ___ YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED!)

Congrats on your graduation! Thanks for the data points. My 7th statement cuts in a little over a week and I also had one instance when a recurring payment would have put me over the limit, but was declined. It's great to know that will not automatically prevent me from graduating.

Thanks! When I started my rebuild in late 2019/early 2020, I kept trying to prequalify and couldn't get it. I ended up just trying and actually applying and was denied, so I'd say the prequalify site is pretty accurate, definitely don't waste a hard pull unless you prequalify! Surprisingly, Citi accepted me long before Discover did, but I don't see my Citi card graduating any time soon...
